@ShadowsPapa , technically you should hang from the upper chord of a rafter. At a minimum put additional screws here to spread the load over 3 rafters.

There actually are screws up into all 3 (see pic below)
When I was sure how it was going to work and I was satisfied with the position and all, I went through and put more screws in. Some of the screws are the same type that hold shelves to the walls in my shop that have several hundred pounds of car parts on them.
I took pictures all along as I put it together.
Because the guy had sheets of OSB screwed up there, I couldn't put these 2x4s above without ripping all of that down. Seems there was something else up there, too...
I figured if I could hang from one of those rafters, that roof a fraction of my weight could hang from 3 of them tied together LOL

The original builder has all of the rafters tied together down the middle with plywood running the length of the garage. It's a truss roof structure and he used to use the upper area for storage.
I got curious as I was putting this up and used my long straight edge along the bottoms of the rafters and there was almost no deviation. I was amazed that a 40 year old structure that had things stored up there for years was still so straight, but that's how the guy built things. He worked for a large commercial construction business in the area and built the place for himself.

I researched every headliner on the market before deciding to stick with the Mopar version. Prices were all pretty close. The coverage is more extensive compared to Hotheads or Boom Mat with a total of eight pieces (including a one-piece rear roof panel) and a design that is form fitted to the lines and channels of the Freedom Top resulting in a professional fit and finish as one would expect from OEM. The only one that had 100% coverage was the Covercraft but seemed to me like flimsy & thin subwoofer box material that is glue to the roof.

Very pleased with the quality and end result! Just a bit more difficult to install. :like:
Interesting, coverage looked the same from what I saw

I likely didn't dig as far and deep as you did, but also did some checking - which helped me make up my mind to go with the MOPAR again when I ordered this 2022 that I may or may not see in 2022 LOL
Yes, could have saved some $$ maybe then there's a convenience factor, too.
Could I have saved 50 bucks, maybe 100? Perhaps, but the time spent by this guy doing that with 25+ extra pounds (depending on if you ask my wife or someone else) vs what I could make helping others......... let Jeep do it. In that time I do something more fun, and make enough money to cover the extra cost.
It works for me, looks fine, and with the spiderweb sunshade up there I can't see most of it anyway.
I think most of the noise I hear is road noise - that would take sound deadening in the sides and floor.

Sorry for the hijack, carry on.
Someone with valid construction experience and expertise can comment on my stuff any time.
