Factory bedliner here.
I have used trucks with sprayed, and drop-ins both.
Relative to use, a drop-in is not bad at all. But only if it is textured as others have said.
My drop-in/use was very bad by virtue of use, specifically caustic chemicals. It trapped fumes, and even though I sprayed water in between the bed and the liner, my bed was shot in less than 2 years.
So use specific, a drop-in is fine, but IMO the spray is better for universal use.

I’m shopping for a bed liner for my new Gladiator. I had initially planned to go with spray-on, but it occurs to me that the spray on liner won’t protect from dents.

For those that have one or the other, what do you like or not like?

Should I look at other options?
Do both, extra protection

I seen a Gen 2 Tundra with Line-X bed and with a Toyota parts plastic bed liner put over it. Did not work out well as the plastic liner never sit flush in many areas and eventual wore flat spots into the Line-X with eventually the Line-X wearing a hole into the plastic liner.

My concern as well, and I use my truck, as a truck.

Wood Chuck Truck.

I went with a drop in bedliner.

If the Wive's tail about rusted beds come true, I'll yank it and get it coated.

Pulled it after two years of install, no wear, no rust, and because it was installed, no dents.

$200.00 installed!

I had Linex in my new 2008 Chevy 3500HD dually and my 2014 GMC 2500HD Denali. To me it's the best, hands down.

BUT, I priced it for my Rubicon last summer and they quoted me $650 and the Gladiator has a tiny bed compared to my prior trucks. I can afford it but I didn't WANT to afford it.

I had a big sheet of cardboard in there til recently. I bought a $139 rubber mat. It works good in that it conforms against the bed sides but we just had a rain the other day and there was a big puddle in there. I don't like that AT ALL!

I may end up being the idiot that has Linex put in there with the mat on top!

I did 2 trucks with drop in liners. I'll never do that again. Had to remove the liners at least 2 times a year to clean out from under them. The first truck, the bed rusted through. The second truck had most of the paint worn off when I got rid of them.

You have plenty of company then. I put the rubber mat on top of my Rhino Liner bed. The spray liners is great if hauling yard or or building material, but sometime having the rubber mat is needed if you have stuff that you do not want to scratch pulling in and out.
