So riddle me this...You buy one off of someone (with the correct code)
You install it
The OFR icon appears and runs but doesn't show all functions

If it isn't authorized why is it showing up and showing some of the info correctly?

If what you are saying is correct the icon should not be showing at all...Not saying you are wrong, Im just trying to understand.
The VIN stored in the head unit should be authorized, since the icon is showing up and the app runs. The problem is in the truck computer not being properly configured to supply the necessary data to the head unit. I don't know if there is a VIN check between the computer and the head unit, that could also be a problem.

Ive wondered if there is something I missed in JScan...Ive reached out to them, waiting on a reply.

Thats interesting since some of it is working and other parameters are not...I suppose I will have a talk with my dealer, see how friendly they really want to be
The dealer might be able to help, it depends on how much time and effort they are willing to invest.

To fix it, the sales code for the 8.4 Uconnect needs to be added to your VIN in the FCA computer system. The head unit needs to be updated with the correct VIN, and then the truck computer needs flashed to load the sales code change. Getting all that done can be difficult, and is only possible if the 8.4 Uconnect was an available option for your VIN. If it was not an available option when the truck was built, the dealer will not be able to do anything to help you.

There could be some options that were missed. You may also need to use AlfaOBD to get it working.

Curious, I have a 8.4 screen from Infotainment Dot Com and used a Tazer Mini to activate Off Road Pages. Aside from the mobile services and GPS map updates, everything seems to run fine. There's clearly a way to unlock these things.

Didnt they ask for your VIN when you ordered? I thought they were mating the radio to your VIN before shipping...Could be completely wrong though

Yes they did, some how they use the VIN to do some computer magic.

My question on that is if they did mate them how are they doing it? Do they have a dealer doing it? Is this something we can actually do ourselves with the correct tech?

Do you think Alfa offers something a Tazer cant? If you buy the OBDLInk MX+ and Alfa the price isn't all the off from a used Tazer.

The OBDLink MX+ is supposed to be the best OBD dongle available. AlfaOBD is supposed to have access to more of the changeable settings than the other options available.

I would wait to hear back from Jscan before making any decisions.

Yep, that is the plan...Ive just heard the Tazer isn't that great unless you use the live functions...Dont know much about Alfa.

Off Road Pages is a feature that was originally only offered in the higher end trims (Rubicon, Overland). It uses the cellular connection in the 8.4 Uconnect to check in and confirm the VIN stored in the head unit is authorized to display the Off Road Pages. If it can't check in, or the VIN is not authorized, the icon doesn't appear. The satellite antenna also needs to be connected so the GPS will function to display the Altitude and Coordinates.
Also available on Sport trims.

Unless you want any of the 'Live' functions, the Tazer is too expensive for just programming changes. They have been very responsive in adding features and access to options that can be changed.

AlfaOBD has been around for a while, and is more technically oriented. It may be more difficult to find, but if a setting can be changed, it should be able to do it.

Jscan can do most of most of what AlfaOBD and the Tazer can do. It is a little easier to use.
