Considering a long run up there this weekend and would like to know current conditions: flooded, overgrown, closed, perfect, etc.

Particularly interested in Dickie Bell.

Thanks!

I know this is old, but wanted to chime in. With careful line picking your rig can run all the trails except Daniel from the 555 service road. If you take 553 to Rocky Mount you can run up the back side of Daniel no problem. The place is very rocky with good drainage, mostly 2 way trails with mostly enough clearance to allow oncoming traffic to pass. I would not go during or right after rain. It's clay there and gets extreme slick if it's wet. It turns the easy green trails like Wolf Den and Sawmill in to extremely hard to navigate. A lot of off-camber sloped trails just suck when it's wet. I always give it 1-2 days to dry out. If going solo you should have a winch and recovery gear. It's been a couple years since I've been there, but the place gets rutted out bad in some spots. And you might high center in a few spots on rocks.

Thanks. Now that you've told me what I can't do you gotta say why.

The front side of Daniel is a literal boulder field. It's where the guys who have custom built crawling rigs on 40's+ that are trailered in go to get stuck. I'm taking 3-5' boulders. An entire slope packed with them. You can go up the back side if Daniel to watch those guys tear their shit up.

Not entirely true.

I have been up that side of Daniel in April, the second open weekend, and memorial day weekend. I am on 3" lift and 37's. It just takes time and choosing the right line for the Gladiator's wheelbase and size. I even went up the right side of the rock garden at the top past the switchbacks with no body damage.

I haven't taken any on the ledges and switchbacks. I quit taking videos awhile ago because I would record them and not like doing any of the editing. I can see if any of my group has taken any.

Been going to Uwharrie every year since 2001.

The first ledge gladiators have to take the right side because of belly clearance and hard right corner to straddle the v notch and up around the corner is another bigger notch. I have found it best to get the front passenger tire up on the wall and straddle this v notch also.

Then just one more switch back with a tree on the edge that the hill likes to lean you into. Then your at the bottom of the big rock garden. Easiest line is straight up the middle or far left. At the top is where everybody stops for the view.

I have yet to do Daniel or dickie bell, but every other trail shouldn’t be an issue with 35s. The groups and the state manage the trails very well. I live like 45mins away from uwharrie, I literally turn left out of my drive way and just go straight until I get to Troy. Having three different vehicles that I’ve driven over the years at uwharrie (13’ grand Cherokee, Nissan Frontier, and now the gladiator) the gladiator makes most of the trails pucker factor much lower. You will scrape the belly going over the speed control/ water control berms on the trails more than the obstacles themselves with 35s and a 2” lift.

if anyone is in the area and wants to do a group trail ride let me know.
