Many retired folks are full-time RVers, they often do change their state of residency to avoid state income taxes but still spend most of the year out traveling. This is a big topic in the full-time RVing crowd.
I wonder if they put them on all vehicles since the vast majority are financed. Makes it easier to repossess if needed. If someone was in the repossession business they could probably shed more light on it.

Since you want to use the factory aux switches rather than use the wireing kit that came with your lights, this should be easy.

I seem to remember there being a recall/fix for this on certain years that were effected. I have a 23 that did not have this issue. I would suggest searching some older threads from 2021 for this issue.
