I did a lot of research and mind twisting. Went with the VoSwitch. Super happy. Although not "factory" it has a nice integrated "factory style" look. Super nice, and I've already used 5 of the switches with lights that require both "high" and "low" switches.
Looking like we will be there the week of Oct. 21. Should be good times! I normally hit Moab in the spring on 2 wheels, so this will be a bit different. Looking forward to it.
Bought 14Ga wire in different colors (for clarity and less confusion) off of Amazon. Everything cut to custom length so no wires everywhere. The Voswitch has all the fuses, switches, etc. so I didn't need the wiring harnesses from HF. 👍 The only other cables were the Voswitch control cable...
I was in the same boat. Halogen's - which were horrible - and a need (want) to upgrade.
This is what I eventually did.
LED bulbs into the Halogen housings. Approx $200.
Baja Designs into the fog positions of the bumper (cause that's what the dealer had)
Voswitch on the A pillar handle. (I...
I was considering both those wheels as well. I could never really bond with the look of the AEV's. Plus the weight. That pushed me towards the 703's. The bead grip tech is really what sold me. Running 35x11.50R17 Toyo's. I still got a bit more poke than I wanted, but very happy with the...
Nice. I get it on the "unloading" but the wife really doesn't want to tent on "the ground", and neither of us really want a rooftop tent setup right now. I'm still hauling motorcycles, etc. in the truck often. So no dedicated / semi-permanent overloading setup is really possible for us right...
I'm not really an "overlander", but I needed some overnight capability for some longer trails I want to do (like Rimrocker, etc.). So I decided on a bed style tent, some fridge capability, and some battery power to make life better out on the trail. We ended up with the Jeep branded tent due...
So far I'm liking them fine. If I could have gotten the Falken's when I needed them (3 months ago or so), I probably would have gone that direction, but the Falkens were not available and the Toyo's were HIGHLY recommended by my trusted local shop so..... All good so far.
Method 703 Bead Grips 17x8.5 w/ +25 offset
Toyo Open Country ATIII's -35x11.5R17's
I originally tried with stock wheels, but the left tie rod rubbed and ground on the inside of the L wheel. Had to go to the Methods with above offset to eliminate the problem. They have more poke than I would...
I did a full rear fender PPF and hinges PPF for the gravel getting tossed up, and it has worked fairly well, and was cheap in comparison to a full wrap/PPF - which locally is up over $6,000. Not doable for me. I also did mud flaps which helped as well. Of course those don't help with the pin...
You're welcome. I wish I had seen this config before deciding, but it all worked out for me. Well....except for the extra $2k on wheels cause the stock front L wheel rubbed on the tie rod.
For me, the 35's are perfect. The "look" is just right with the Clayton. Along with the lift, 35's...
Yup. Clayton Overland 2.5+ lift, with the Falcon SP2 3.3 Shocks, and Currie front end suspension & Falcon Steering Stabilizer. Very happy with all of it, but the Currie front end DID necessitate me buying wheels - stock L front wheel rubbed. Ended up with Method 703 Beadgrips, -12 Backspacing...
This was my thought process as well. I wanted something that would be a super capable "compromise".
If you want a rock crawler, a gladiator is not the premium choice. It will do it (a bit), but will always be problematic until you essentially rebuild your entire rig from the bottom up.
IMO - you are leaning correctly. Clayton 2.5 overland!! <<thumbsup>>. If you want some longevity - especially as it's an older vehicle with some miles - I'd opt for the steering options as well. you're probably due anyway. But beware, the stock wheels will probably not fit. Plan on...
Thanks Xavi! I'm not far. As a matter of fact, that first pic above was on the Mogollon Rim S of Flag, and N of Sedona......a couple of weeks ago right after a raging microburst. I will keep your offer in mind. Where do you normally go wheeling? I'm familiar with the plateau up around...
Yeah, that sounds about right. While I rubbed occasionally when stock, I haven't come close to rubbing the undercarriage after the lift.
Keep in mind that the Clayton 2.5" Overland + lift leaves the vehicle sitting HIGHER than 2.5 inches. I'd guess around 3.5 up front with no lift / winch -...
35x11.5R17's (Toyo ATIII's) on Method Beadlocks. Clayton 2.5+ Overland lift. Netting over 3' up front and close to 3" in the rear. The combo ended up being just about perfect for me. No real need for 37's or 3.5' lift. I'm not pretending this is a rock crawler :sun: - just wanted some extra...
Yeah, I just go for whatever works best for my situation. As someone who is deep into manufacturing electronic goods in 2024, somewhere between 50-99% of the internals of "American Made" products come from (mostly) China. Just a FYI. Use what you like.
