That depends on the speed and RPM that you're traveling at when you are attempting the pass. With my 5.13s, I have seen 4th for passing but I'm also at a lower speed. As I increase speed the vehicle can't downshift to 4th as it would essentially be right near redline so the truck won't go there...

Nice! I have a Smartcap too so that would be the case for me too. Do you feel the JCR panels have enough space between the panel and the side of the bed to allow you to mount accessories without removal of the panel? They seem to be closer than others I've seen.

For how the JCR front panel mounts behind the bed rail, and not having a full meal mounting surface, does this leave a small gap that you can see behind the bed rail in the front?

Does the installation of the molle panel brackets behind the bed rails make a noticeable gap between the rail and bed side when installed?

We found my issue. It was a bad carrier bearing inside the diff. Replaced the bearings and everything is perfect and quiet now.
