On my last āwaveā oil change (15k ago) I had them do the fuel filter while they had the jeep, itās been about a year (7k miles since the last oil change (6mos ago I drained it) so i figured I would switch out the filter today.
Well the cap was so tight I ended up breaking the plastic nut off...
Hey Ecodiesel friends...
How often (miles) are you changing your oil. Do you go by the oil life gauge?
Personally I have been between the 7-8k mark, and I tow quite a bit (3500lb).
I am wondering if I should be pushing that lower to like 5-6k.
Oil is black..... But that's no indicator it's a...
People have opinions on everythingā¦
It meets the MS12991 requirements.
Thus it meets the manufacturer/ engineering specifications and is absolutely safe / good to runā¦
I can see the dimple count is different based upon an image shared on this forum some time ago... But beyond that I don't see any external differences yet.
Towing at altitude is very hard with engines that produce a lot of heat.
Here is an image of me towing 3700lbs on a warm 85 degree day at 8000ā
Pushing some grades obviously

If you tow trailers at altitude...
I can see I riled you up a little! Agreed these are opinions⦠but I really think after owning my gladiator and an actual full size truck at altitude, max tow ratings and limits really are just that ālimitsā of capability.
Sitting behind an engine at 4000 rpmās for long periods of time may or...
Agreed, 4000 is not a problemā¦.
But if itās in the format of a camper with a lot of wind resistance, and you are towing at 9000-11000 feet elevation, things change pretty quickly compared to a full size truck.
That sounds related to the the wiring issue that has been pointed out a few times.
I derate when oil hits 268, but itās silent, no dash lights etcā¦
Donāt let the CP4 stuff worry you either.
I run hotshots EDT and am at 35kā¦. Zero issues so far. (Besides an annoying rattle in the roof due to my roof rackā¦.)
The ecodiesel sports the same axles (cast knuckles/ wide track) as the max tow, has the bigger fan, alternator, battery as a heads up.
But it produces way more heat (as itās modern diesel)
I still will tell people any day towing moderate weight, the ecodiesel is a better choice.
Just donāt...
Here is the truthā¦
Any gladiator really shouldnāt tow more than 4000lbs regularly. Can they⦠sureā¦. But they are not full sized trucks and do struggle with high altitude, heat, etc.
If you are buying a gladiator just to tow, donātā¦
Here is another fun fact.
I have an ecodiesel rubicon on a...
35k on my 21 eco diesel with a Mopar 2ā lift and 35ā tires.
I went with the ecodiesel for towing.
While some people will shout and say it has a lower max, who in their right mind would tow near the maximum on any vehicle, itās asking for problems.
I will say it does require a mindset...
After having several close calls with idiot drivers, I sold my motorcycles as well.
If that Jeep driver isnāt dead, good, nobody needs to die in a car accidentā¦.
But you are not welcome here.
