I know this is a year old...I've made a few changes. Now I run the Redarc BCDC in the bed of my truck and only use this power box when needed. Anybody build anything recently?
Just had a chat with a friend about Overlanding, and had some thoughts while out in the woods getting ready for bow season. I'd love to hear some opinions. Keep it civil ?
I love mine. Rebel Offroad Full height, but it is very much give and take. I've accepted that I wont be putting anything too tall in the back anytime soon, but...I do haul 12' 4"x4"s on occasion. They obviously don't fit in the bed so I put them on top of the rack. I also hunt and use my rack as...
Couldn't find a ton of info on this bad boy, so here is a quick video I made. I love his thing. It's about to get a test here in the Florida heat. So far it has held a steady 50 degrees inside my garage. It stays about 80-90 in the garage this time of year.
I went from plastic bumper to steel on a rubicon and I had to use a couple washer to create about a 1/4" gap for clearance between the skid and bumper. There's probably a better way to mitigate the issue, but its worked fine for me.
I used a redarc bcdc charger. It takes whatever the alternator puts out and raises the voltage to charge voltage specific to battery type. It isn't cheap (around $400), but neither is the genesis setup.
Any issues due the variable voltage alternator? I went with a dc to dc charger to ensure my 2nd battery gets optimal charge. Just curious if your battery gets to 100% charge.
It shuts off around 5 MPH or so. Has a decent field of view, but its aimed low. Its mainly for seeing things at ground-ish level in front of you. Might be a programmer or some other trick to make it do what your're asking.
I put some conduit around it and have some wir
I actually have some wire glands....just haven't gotten around to installing them.
I went with a 250 amp breaker just in case I run an inverter from the main battery. I would only do it in extreme cases, but consulted an electrician and her said...
Yes its huge. I put it there because I have an inverter on an anderson plug that I can run off the main battery if the aux batt goes flat. Just another option...i tend to build redundant systems/options. The bcdc charger is fused inside of the pelican case.
Update continued:
I also put anderson plugs on a 20' 2awg cable. Figure I can drag my box to wherever it may be needed and still charge it without having to suck in exhaust fumes. A side benefit is now there is room inside the box for other things. I.E. flashlight maybe felxible solar pannel...
