My 1st one was a 1988 YJ, bought new. Put a 4" spring lift, 33" Gateway Buckshot mudders, and a Ramsey 8000 lb. winch on it and went places I probably shouldn't have. My 2nd was a '92 YJ. Both were good Jeeps. My 3rd Jeep was a '06 TJ, bought new. Those TJ's were pretty much bulletproof...
I just installed Barricade HD Rocker Steps on mine. While they don't completely cover the pinch weld, they do fit up high enough to disguise it. My wife needed a step, and they definitely make it easier to get in and out. I was looking for steps, but not the drop down type. Price was nice, too.
I installed 285/75r17's (33.9") on my Willys. Acceleration is fine. My truck shifts into 8th on level ground, but any incline will make it downshift. Hope this helps with your decision.
I really like the looks of them. I did look at the installation instructions and don't particularly like having to run the switch wiring up through the passenger side drain plug. I would probably splice the power wiring and use one of my auxiliary switches to power them instead of using their...
I guess it all depends on where one is likely to go with his truck. I like to account for suspension flexibility when going offroad. I'm not a serious offroader. Just hunting trails and such, but some places I go could make 35's rub.
I had installed the 1.5" Teraflex leveling kit earlier. After installing a winch, I felt that I needed another 1" of level. I added another 1" Teraflex puck to the front, along with an adjustable track bar and shock relocation brackets. I also increased the bump stops from 1" to 2". I like...
I can't see how the axle could shift to the passenger side after a spacer lift. Did you keep the factory track bar or buy an adjustable one? The reason I ask is because the track bar attaches to the frame on the driver side and the factory bar wouldn't let the axle shift to the passenger side...
I have a set of 285/75r17's (34's). I have less than 5K miles on them, so I can't tell you anything as to how long they will last. I've done some minor wheeling. They are good for that. Mine are load range E (pretty stiff) so I run them at about 30-31 psi cold for a better ride on the...
I, too, have a Willys with 285/75r17's. Mine acts as yours does, though I haven't noticed any perceptible loss of power. MPG is around 18.5 combined city and highway. It does up-and-down shift between 6th, 7th, and 8th gear a lot! But I noticed before I went to larger tires that it did the...
Hehehe...Ditto on the Western Union Splice! That takes me back to my college electronics classes in the 70's. Best cable splicing method ever invented (at the time). And still a good one now!
