Our trucks are too new for this to be a problem for a while, but if you blow a radiator hose you can piece it back together with that. Cut the hose at the hole/tear, insert pvc, tighten clamps, drive home and fix it right.

Around 12.5 is what it's supposed to stay at on these. It is a "smart" alternator, so it's not always on (like on anything from the last 30 years). It's basically supposed to charge the battery up after start-up then only put out what's necessary to keep things at equilibrium (~12.5 volts)...
