wired my gmrs wire through the passenger upper trim and through the rear pressure vent, sliced the vent to allow it to fall around the wire and not allow things to crawl in. With the radio being inside the cab and the antenna requiring outside mounting, seemed like a good route and it worked well.

No worries, I’ve had the alpines on my JL for about 2.5 years, haven’t touched them and they are still perfect. Haven’t beaten them up a ton, some rock crawling, but they are beefy, your main concern should be the bushings. They are solid!
