Is that the only way it fails or that a more extreme case? I was thinking more along the lines of the internal collar failing so the axles won't connect.
I understand that's how to enable it. I've used it before. I dont like having to jump through those hoops to enable the feature. It seems like unnecessary steps to a useful feature.

I can't comment on the snow and my truck is parked in the garage, but I leave it on all winter. You never know when that random occasional nice day will pop up and you just want to flip it back.
I get the visibility aspect of leaving them off when on the trails, but I see what my doors look like when I get off the trails. I am not about to have to clean that out of my truck.
