With respect, if you're overlanding regularly with 4 full-size adults, you need a different rig. The Gladiator has a better rating than a Ford Raptor. It's not exactly under-rated. Even a Power Wagon only has a 1,510 lb. payload rating. That's within 200 lbs of what the sticker on my JTR...
The image in the brochure looks almost exactly like the Gator posted at the beginning of this thread. Sorry if people were assuming the brochure was wrong. Configurators are not to be trusted.
Me and my Punk'n JTR don't have a dog in this fight. I happen to like both Gator and Gobi, although I agree that it's weird Jeep offered them both in the same year.
Now, to be fair to Jeep, they never called it Gator Green. Just Gator. People seem to have read "Green" into the name based on...
Who overlands with four adults in one rig? I have never seen that in my 30+ overlanding trips. Two max. Maybe a wife and kids, but they don't weigh nearly like what you're suggesting.
Interesting comments. I live at 7,000 feet and mine does fine. Easily pulls steep hills in 3rd at 30, 40, 50, mph. Just finished an overlanding trip with a full load and two guys and it did fine at 9,000 passes. And this was on 35s.
Like you, I wish 5th and 6th were both lower, but I...
I wanted a red dash on my Punk'n, but I have the dark silver and really like it. The interior looks classy as hell (for a Jeep). It'll be interesting to see if the guy over on FB is correct, or if he's just very good at pretending to know what's going on.
Why do you want 37s? For the life of me, I don't understand the appeal. I overland a lot, and nobody I overland with runs 37s. 35s all day. One guy used to run 37s but switched back. They are seriously heavy and expensive, and they wear out your axles and suspension faster.
Pretty sensationalistic, whiny article. I just finished an overlanding trip with my JTR 6MT loaded with gear and two guys and it did great.
I imagine the 6MT has been optimized for Rubicon gearing because Rubicon buyers are the ones, by far, who are most likely to order a manual. I can see...
If you plan to go with black accessories, it's hard to beat Punk'n Orange. It also looks very different, and very great, when it's dirty. Who could really tell if Gobi was dirty, clean, or in between?
