Installed Wolfstorm's front bumper yesterday. Solid bumper with a retro-tube look to match my Paramount Automotive rock sliders. Mounting the winch next.
Update: getting there... hoping to finish winch install today (2/3/24). Gotta rig up some sort of relay management platform under the hood...
Oh that's not my setup (yet), or my doggo, lol. It's some bass fisherman's I found on YouTube who camps outta his shortbed tacoma. I just needed some inspiration—so I'mma use his design to build my own identical shortbed setup.
I have the fiberglass ARE Classic HD with the outdoorsman windows—but I also think this cap only looks good when color matched to the rest of the body (incl. the roof).
The outdoorsman windows are vented, which will make going from a rooftop tent to a truck-bed setup a little more comfortable...
Does anyone have this (super affordable) extendable steel bumper?
I love the tubular design, and how it extends for extra highway protection, but goes stubby for the trails. Bonus points for an (albeit high) winch mount.
Manufacturer is WolfX(?): https://a.co/d/goR68Jl
Does anyone else run...
Thanks for the writeups, y'all! Gonna try it myself in the new year with:
- Harbor Freight's Apex Badland ZXR 9500 that was on sale last week.
- LoD's JWP0701 Winch Plate from Quadratec.
- A generic fairlead mount from Harbor Freight.
Happy to be finally doing this! I've been holding onto a...
Added stickers of all the national forests we've hit along the years. Can't see out that window anyway while driving ?? Stickers courtesy of Tred Cred.
Here's my build sheet. In retrospect, I wouldn't have included the vented window. At the time I had grand plans for dual camping in the RTT and under the cap. In reality, we use the bed exclusively for overlanding storage—so there's no room for sleeping back there ??
Second annual overlanding trip from Northern Indiana to the Outer Banks! Stopped over in the Wayne (night 1 pic 1) and George Washington & Jefferson national forests (nights/pics 2 and 3). Night 3 was supposed to be at First Landing State Park, but Ophelia shut the park down.
This year's...
Sure thing! It'll be a while, though. My oldest son and I are on an eastbound overlanding trip for the next 2 weeks.
In the meantime, here's a cot that could be what you're looking for. This was my backup plan to my backup plan.

Created a just-in-case, sleep-in-the-cab camping setup. Prototyped with a rope hammock (pic 1), improved it with a polycanvas hammock (pic 2). It'd be a lot more roomy if I actually lost the 50 lbs I've been meaning to ?????
Upgraded my just-in-case, sleep-in-the-cab setup from a rope hammock to a polycanvas hammock. Ended up cutting off the tassels, though it did add a certain hominess to the setup.
After a thunderstorm in the RTT at Naomikong Point (beach pic), I created a just-in-case, sleep-in-the-cab setup for my 5yo and me. He'll sleep in the folded down back seats, and I rigged up a hammock-thing. It's comfortable enough for about 4 hours of sleep ?.
