Just for swapping out cams, I don't ever pull the bumper, it is not in the way. I do remove the wheels and lower the Jeep onto 2x4 blocks to get it as low as possible. I do this with any Wrangler or Gladiator, it makes it easier to reach the engine. I do always remove the battery tray and power...
I have also found that sometimes, Jeep also sneaks in an extra circuit or two. I recently ran into this when doing an engine swap in a Wrangler. When I began connecting the harness, some circuits had changed pin out sequences. Also found that changing the pin positions in the connectors wasn't...
It is in the PDI to set tire pressure to the door sticker specs for the test drive, as you noted. The PDI also specifies setting tire pressure to maximum pressure noted on sidewall for storage, and regular movement of the vehicle, to prevent flat spotting the tires. The problem comes when a...
As for moving connections on the Z case fuse ( high amp fuse array), the connectors are "keyed" to the corresponding terminal on the fuse array. This is to prevent using a higher amperage fused circuit for a lower amperage circuit, such as a 150 amp fuse for a 80 amp circuit. I add this just to...
As far as I can remember, the ZF eight speed fluid already has dye from the factory, so no need to add dye. I haven't actually chased any leaks on a 4xe (except for the coolant inlet tube that is subject to a recall), but I have seen issues with the electrical connector at the passenger side...
It is definitely worthwhile to troubleshoot problems instead of firing the parts shotgun at them. Checking grounds, and fuses is simple, and sometimes saves digging deeper for a solution. I also will say to use caution in working around the Z Case fuse at the end of the PDC (fuse box). I have...
In my experience working in the service department of a large CDJR dealership from before the Pentastar was introduced, the Pentastar engines are the best gasoline fueled engines in the Stellantis product line. In the entire time that the Pentastar, in both the original and the upgrade versions...
It doesn't actually have to be running, but the battery voltage needs to be maintained above about 13.3 volts to keep the electronics safe from problems caused by reprogramming with low voltage. If you have a battery charger that can function as a regulated power supply, it will work just as well.
I would be careful in any dealings with that Santa character. Thirty years ago, he bought my daughter a Barbie Dream House. I had to put it together. It doesn't sound like a big deal until you realize that there are half a million parts and pieces, some so small that I needed tweezers to pick...
It is not covered by warranty, but I like to replace the exhaust lash adjuster(s) and exhaust to rocker arm(s) that correspond to worn intake lobes on Pentastar upgrade engines that have suffered from intake cam failure when I replace an intake cam and rockers. This is because the oil spray is...
I have driven every model and drivetrain of Gladiator and Wrangler, since I work in a dealership service department. Each has its best points, and also weak points. I have been impressed with how different each model is, because there is so many things that are shared between the models...
In the past ten years, it seems like almost all the hardware shipped from FCA, Stellantis, or whatever master Jeep has at the time, has been double bagged. A lot of parts are actually double boxed too. Mopar must spend a fortune on packaging, based on what I have seen.
I can tell you that Stellantis didn't put that bolt in the box. But they may have put it in a bag. I can't think of any bolts from Stellantis that are shipped in a box, the bolts I installed today were actually in a plastic bag, which was inside of another plastic bag.
I see. The "T" is one of the hardest things to get sealed effectively. Getting the old sealer and oil film out is a big part of the repair. If you can get them out, clean it with rubbing alcohol and then reseal, it should be good. I would ditch the china wall seals and lay down a bead of Three...
Not sure of the part number, but it is available at the dealership parts department. It is in a tube that requires a caulking gun; I have never seen it in the small tubes that aftermarket RTV is packaged in. It is such a strong bond that one tech in our shop broke a timing cover trying to pry it...
The Mopar ThreeBond is what the factory seals oil pans and timing covers on the Pentastar engines with, there is no conventional gasket. If a seal using ThreeBond leaks, it was an error in preparation or assembly. It bonds the cover and oil pan so well that it is possible to break the pan or...
The OE oil pan "gasket" is Mopar ThreeBond RTV. If the surfaces to be sealed are properly cleaned and prepped, and directions followed, there is no better sealer for the oil pan (and timing cover also). I often use it on other applications because it works so well.
I figured out that after an evening of heavy drinking, it is possible to lose a car and think it was just a crazy dream. When I woke up, I knew something was wrong when my car was missing. "Son, where's your car?" "Ah, I don't know, but I think it is upside down in a ditch off Highway 11." A...
