  1. Aftermarket 3.6 Engine Oil Cooler?

These engines start in high lift and immediately switch to low lift. They have to start in high lift because they require oil pressure to switch to low lift. Just looking at the high lift arms of the intake rockers will show minimal wear, because the rockers are always going to run on the high...
  2. 3.6 Engine Tick

Sounds good. I too used to take things apart to study how they worked. I paid attention in class and tried to apply science to my hot rodded cars when I could. I ended up being pretty much self taught in automotive technology, but when I went to work in the dealership I took advantage of...
  3. 3.6 Engine Tick

The exhaust lash adjuster would be at maximum extension if used in the intake position, and even then there would probably be a bit of noise. Definitely driveability issues would be present. I'm glad to know that you are having good service from your Pentastars. Also glad to see that you take...
  4. 3.6 Engine Tick

Because I was curious, I put one of the exhaust lash adjusters on the intake side just to see how far down in the lash adjuster bore it sat. Since there is about a quarter of an inch difference in height of the adjusters, with the exhaust lash adjusters being shorter, the exhaust lash adjusters...
  5. 3.6 Engine Tick

Glad to see that we finally have TSB guidelines for replacement of lash adjusters for the PUG engines. The original Pentastar engines had very few lash adjuster failures, but there is a range of noise in the upgrade Pentastar engines that is definitely not the high lift rocker arms on worn...
  6. Blown engine tear down - Pentastar 3.6L that bought the farm

Sounds familiar. Many years ago my brother had a Pontiac Trans Am. He drove it pretty hard, and I was usually around to fix whatever he broke. One day he complained about a "strange, odd knocking sound". I listened to it and had him drive it to my shop. I determined which cylinder was the...
  7. Round nut in frame spinning

Jeep loves red Locktite on frame and body mount bolts. I would recommend heating the fasteners before loosening them to prevent the nuts from breaking loose from the frame. I have had the same experience as you did, and I ended up cutting the bolt and removing the nut from the frame. I replaced...
  8. Full Reveal: 2023 Ram Rampage Laramie, Rebel & R/T

It may be a "RAM", but it seems to just be a Maverick and Ridgeline competitor. I can just imagine the memes coming: "Show us on on this doll where the Rampage touched you".
  9. Do it yourself alignment

Exactly as above. Also I will add that many times people complain of "pulling" to one side when what they actually mean is that the steering wheel is not centered.
  10. Adding factory Aux switches

Adding the AUX switches to a Jeep that was not equipped with them from the factory will also require a Vehicle Reconfigure process to be performed. This basically tells the various electronic control modules that the AUX switches are present, but they do not operate unless this is done. I have...
  11. F%&$ing money pit

Bankruptcy never was this much fun. Just empty every pocket. Also remember, a college education is overrated, so might as well put the kid's college fund into the Jeep as well. Just kidding about the college education, it didn't do me any harm.
  12. New to jeep any advice would be great.

Good advice above. No reason to hurry into any mods. I have to think on any mod for a pretty good while, even when I am sure about the mod I still have to get motivated to spend the money.
  13. Willys or Mojave

I agree. It is worth investigating all the different models to find out which one is best for you. I leaned towards a Willys initially, but I found that an Overland fit my needs better. You may prefer the Mojave for your use, many people prefer how it drives and rides over other Gladiator models.
  14. Batteries covered under MaxCare (3/36 done)?

Thank you for spelling this out. I have always made it a point not to buy a "extended warranty", which you nailed on the head. It IS only an insurance policy on the vehicle systems, and so much fine print that hides what isn't covered. I always tell people not to spend the money, better to just...
  15. How useless are used gears?

Nothing to be bothered by. Most people don't realize that ground tackle is the province of only a few sailors.
  16. How useless are used gears?

If they have a good wear pattern, they could be used again. The trick in setting up a used gear set is to match the original wear pattern exactly. The problem is that very few people have both the skill and the patience to do this. Also, who wants to put stock gear ratios back in their Jeep. As...
  17. New to jeep any advice would be great.

If you aren't planning on much off roading, I think a leveling kit would be great. I also don't plan on much off road use, so I plan to eventually get a leveling kit. As for a full on lift, if you get too much wheel to fender gap, you will probably feel that you should get bigger tires and...
  18. Hard top or Soft top

Exactly why I added a Sunrider to my Gladiator. I like the security of the hardtop and Freedom Panels, but I seldom removed the panels because of the inconvenience of storing the panels once removed. Didn't want to leave them at home just in case of rain. With the Sunrider I can open or close...
  19. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS, NO GUN TALK]

No pictures yet, but I bought a Sunrider today. I will probably install it tomorrow if I can get a few minutes of free time in the shop.
