  1. Manuals might be dead

Agreed. I like the idea of 35s with a 2 inch lift after my stock 33 MTs wear out, but then gears 5 and 6 would be used even less than they already are, or I'd be regearing the diffs. This thing seems really well set up in its stock form (especially with 4.10:1) for daily driving with the...
  2. Manuals might be dead

Exactly this. Masking. Auto or manual, in the end it's still a V6 Pentastar, with the same hp and torque, and there are pros and cons for both manual and auto.
  3. Manuals might be dead

There may be a tendency to run & shift at lower RPMs during the adjustment period. I'm at about 3K miles now, and only now I'm getting used to letting it run higher RPMs before shifting, and the Jeep seems happier. I'd say around 3500 RPM is good. But there's value in the "break in" period - not...
  4. Remove hitch receiver for better departure angles?

Hitch receiver is good protection against damage to the rest of the rig.
  5. Hit and Run -- The Jeep Won

It's tempting but brake checking is a bad idea. I mean, in a hypothetical situation ;). Most "spirited" drivers have rides they care about and when tailgating don't want to actually hit you and damage their own. If they're being arseholds, take some pleasure in knowing you're the one controlling...
  6. Is ordering a Gladiator like playing Russian Roulette?

I'd be glad to but the logistics aren't working in our favor. I'm not ruling out the possibility that you got a bad apple, just saying there are a lot of complaints about the steering because a lot of people are used to tighter steering. If it's as bad as you say, it's warranty time.
  7. Is ordering a Gladiator like playing Russian Roulette?

(in my experience) it's not like the Jeep is going to drive itself all over the road. Steering is a little loose when centered and you should be able to adapt to it. Any perceived variation in steering is more likely due to individual drivers having different levels of tolerance, and less likely...
  8. Bonding the hood?

Doesn't matter if it's a Firestick or a ham antenna, they're subject to the same rules. Actually, at (higher) ham frequencies one could argue it's even more critical. Even with a tuned antenna, its resonant frequency can be affected by nearby metal structure such as windshield frames. The...
  9. Bonding the hood?

If you haven't measured SWR yet, I'd do that before going to the effort of making any other changes. Even if the bonding isn't ideal, you might be able to get a good SWR if you tune the antenna. If you don't have an SWR meter yourself, there's got to be another local ham who does and they'd...
  10. Manual Trans? Lift, Tires, Gears?

Depends on how you intend to use your Jeep, but since you asked for opinion, I'd say manual is really fun and you'll love it; 40s are way too big and heavy for stock JT; even with regearing it's still a Pentastar putting out only so much torque and hp; to each her own but based on my experience...
  11. Survey- For those with misfire issues

Rubi manual with a little under 3K miles here and since day one, on acceleration, I feel an occasional "blip" momentary loss of power (I liken the feel to a misfire). This usually happens in gears 2 or 3 at around 2,000 rpm. So far there have been no Check Engine Light (CEL) or Electronic Start...
  12. So many used Gladiators on the market.

That's impressive, and encouraging. I haven't measured the mpg lately but this makes me want to try it on the commute tomorrow and see where it ends up at the end of the day.
  13. So many used Gladiators on the market.

Rubicon vs Sport. I'd guess the biggest differences are 4.10:1 differential in Rubi vs. whatever is in the Sport, and the tires. I think my Rubi with M/T tires does about 18 mpg average and my driving style is rather subdued.
  14. |dev|urandom

OP that's a thing of awesomeness. Love the name.
  15. So many used Gladiators on the market.

Of course, entirely speculation, which is why I started with "I wonder." In retrospect I suppose that could have been interpreted as sarcasm. That wasn't my intention. This is just my perspective based on my experience towing 3,400 lb with the same motor. My point isn't to trash JT's tow/haul...
  16. Rebates on Home Installation, Install at a Local Shop, or DIY

Arrrrgghh! Bonus payout at work is early March and the Sunrider was high on the list. I gotta go shuffle some funds.
  17. So many used Gladiators on the market.

I wonder how much of this is due to not meeting expectations of towing capability, specifically with those who haven't towed with the 3.6L V6 Pentastar. Right out of the gate one of the big marketing points was its 7,000 lb tow rating, with the ads show a Gladiator towing what looks like a 5,500...
  18. Hidden/Buried features of the JT

Thanks Kathryn! Don't worry; I'm not concerned at all - I was just curious as to what it was. No need for a dealer visit but I appreciate your support.
  19. Front splash guard removal?

mpg is already low enough on Jeeps. If they came without air dams, I can see the posts now: "Hey I found a way to add 2-3 mpg!" and everyone would be installing popular aftermarket air dams LOL I do like that it protects the auto sway bar disconnect mechanism. Probably a good idea to flush out...
  20. Hidden/Buried features of the JT

Is it just me, or has anyone else occasionally heard a very faint, very high pitched siren sound coming from somewhere in the dash? I usually hear it when I'm stopped at a light (when everything's quiet). The first few times I thought it was a real siren in the distance so I'd look around for...
