If a Subaru Outback is your frame of reference, the closest setup to that on a JL/JT would be Select-Trac + rear LSD. This provides maximum traction on snowy/ slushy/ slippery road conditions. This is the setup I have on my JL; it is truly seamless and virtually unstoppable in winter...
Only you can decide if it is worth trading it in.
What I can give you is some insight into Selec-Trac: it is one of those features you do not really appreciate until you have it.
I have Selec-Trac on my JL. I live in the PNW; we have some type of moisture in the roads 9 months of the year...
Of eight prior Wranglers I owned:
Sold it back to Carmax
Sold it privately
Traded it in
Sold it privately
Sold it privately
Sold it privately
Sold it privately
Traded it in
I’d say it’s safe to assume you should be able to sell it privately if you wanted to.
JL is about 1.5 inches longer than JK, and quite a bit taller. The 8-speed transmission alone needed more space.
I don’t see any automakers shrinking their best-selling models any time soon.
Take this from someone who has owned 9 Jeeps: take your time and enjoy they journey.
I made the mistake of lifting and putting 35” tires on my prior JKUR Recon right away. I hated it; it drove like a freaking tractor.
This time, I refrained from doing anything major to my JL for the first 12...
The number of people saying they “would” buy a 2-door Gladiator, or anything with 2-doors for that matter, tends to get overstated on online forums.
In the real world, the ratio of 2-door / 4-door variants, keeping everything else constant, is roughly 1 / 9.
Wrangler is the closest...
These days I’d be lucky it arrived at all.
I ordered a tailgate reinforcement; it was supposed to arrive by Dec. 28 but got lost. Amazon refunded my money. I ordered another one from a different supplier; that one arrived as scheduled and in one piece.
The original order finally appeared on...
This is my 11th Jeep: 2 Grand Cherokees and 9 Wranglers.
I have owned 30 vehicles in my lifetime. The reason I stuck with Wranglers is because it is the most versatile vehicle on the market, period. They can get me to the grocery store just as easily as to the top of a mountain ridge. I...
Most Rubicons never see a dirt road, either.
We live in a time of Instagram, when people will buy a $60,000 Jeep, spend another $10,000 in mods, so that they can project an adventurous image online.
People who really know Jeeps can see past the stereotypes and the hood stickers.
For me it was the opposite: I didn’t care for Snazzberry until I saw it in person. The color looks deeper and richer in the flesh than it does on the screen.
There must have been something wrong with that Sahara. I have sold 3 Rubicons and 3 Saharas over the years: never had any issues selling any of them. They all sold within a week and held their value very well.
The key is bringing them back to factory spec as much as possible, and pricing them...
Hopefully you are getting your full deposit back. Dealers, at least in California, are only allowed to keep deposit money as long as it goes towards the purchase of a vehicle.
Good luck.
I vote for Sarge.
