Price is definitely one point. The canister taking up bed space is another. The recoiling covers are really nice looking, but the Gladiator is too small if you want full access to your bed. I feel like the tracks and canisters are a negative for off roading and debris intrusion. I really like...

There's also Fastop, Razortop, and Wild Top to look at. I've had a Softopper for 3 years now and it has served me well. I do find myself wanting more versatility sometimes though. I think I'd go for the Razortop if I did it again.

Mount a Milwaukee packout panel in the space you want and use the packout boxes. They come in all shapes and sizes. I have one driver side by tailgate for cargo straps basic hand tools, etc.
