I have a craftsman wrench that does both nm and ftlb. yes it does start at 20. I have an Nm wrench, somewhere lol.
also, first ive heard of loctite on these. the ARB cover i have doesnt have pre applied loc tite. Sounds like i should grab a tube? blue?
Torque specs we’re talking about are for the Oem cover only. For aftermarket covers, ask arb. I’d use blue or orange gel. No drips and can be removed with hand tools. If your wrench starts at 20, use an inch pound wrench and multiply foot pound spec times 12.

ARB said 20. Based off grade 5 bolts they use.

People Work?
Thank you for this.

where are the torque specs for the differentials? I even called the dealer, they couldn't find it. THe service advisor asked a tech that has worked there 14 years, he said 20 is the answer.

can anyone confirm?

That's a typical pattern - and torque.

I researched this pretty extensively back when I put my Teraflex covers on. Though the spec sheet calls for 30 foot pounds, there seemed to be quite a few instances of the cover bolts breaking when torquing them down. As it’s noted in the comment section above the factory cover bolts are not to be reused when I did my install. My new diff covers came with the new bolts. The Tera diff covers are a thick modular iron that call for the same 30 foot pounds but I think I torqued them to 20 or 21 foot pounds with double black RTV and they’ve been dry with no seep in a year and a half.

Is it possible they state that due to locking compound on the bolts?
That will also run the torque up from what a bare bolt would be torqued to.
There are sometimes multiple reasons for varying torque values, and "do not re-use" instructions. One great example is the pitman shaft nut - it's single use in production shops due to the locking compound. Otherwise, historically, they get re-used all the time, but with a locking compound. Likely shops don't have or use such things - they use new fasteners with the compound.

My differential cover bolts have for years gotten installed with bolts cleaned thoroughly, and locking compound applied.

If you notice something's missing, let me know and I'll try to add it, but I think I have most, if not all, that the average and the advanced owner/mechanic might need.

ALWAYS Check TSB's for updated information!!

--------------------------------------------------

Revised 8/19/23 - BRAKES - Added TSB for models produced on or before May 18, 2021. Replace rear caliper bolts and torque to 92 foot pounds.
Thank you for providing this!

One error found. In the Brakes list it says the Rear Caliper Bolt Adapter is 74ft-lbs, but the TSB regarding brakes, as well as other sources I've found say it should be 92ft-lbs.

I think the 74 comes from the Wrangler JL as I saw that number referenced in a similar list on the Wrangler forums.
