Just a quick video I made (yes im pretty goofy, ok?) about a gadget i thought was pretty neat. Basically Ive ran a 12v line to the bed of the truck for power then you can put this in-line with that for 24 volts. I ended up with 197 watts from the dc "cig outlet" which i felt was pretty nice for the price. Anyhow- video:

That's only about 15 amps - typical for the 20 amp 12v outlet circuit.
At 24 volts, 197 watts is only 8 amps.

Just a bit confused because you quote 197 watts.
That will be the same regardless of the voltage - with one exception - there will be power lost for each conversion.
So 197 watts at the 12v outlet, which again is about 15 amps, will be 197 watts at the 24 volt side with a possible loss for the conversion.
You can't change the voltage and get more wattage, not possible.

197 watts in - 197 out, regardless of the voltage.

197 watts at 13 volts (such as the 12v outlet/lighter) is 15 amps
197 watts which is what you'd have at 24 volts is only about 8 amps. So your 24 volt outlet is only capable of 8 amps.

So you can't gain power, only a change in voltage which will drop your amperage.
Increase voltage - power can't be lost or gained** - you drop amperage.

(** - you would lose some in the conversion due to the loss of heat, etc. in the process)

So the gain in watts to the Ecoflow is either a product of the unit accepting more at a higher voltage OR the wiring is undersized for 12v and the voltage drop is clipping the internal charger?

As Shadow said, watts are watts. If some of the watts are lost heating the wire, there you go......It will not make it to you battery.

seems to be working fine to me, I guess I dont get what the big deal is.
using the dc cig lighter I got 101 watts, with the converter I got 197. Im sure there is some loss with connectors etc but we greatly improved out charge time with this. Im not sure how this got off on such a bad foot.

It's not a "big deal".

Nobody is doubting your claims of higher wattage charging the battery in your portable power station. It's not rocket science of black magic......it's simple math and most of the time higher voltage is better, especially with vehicles that use a smart alternator where the vehicle's running battery voltage dips to 12.4v.....This is where the convertor would really shine.

I may incorparate this into my buddy's rig to charge his system without the inverter.
