^^ Yeah, I have a feeling that the OP is going to get a call after dropping it off to be fixed, stating that they won't cover it under warranty.

Considering it's all under warranty, I didn't want to start a fuss about the gearing .... definitely cheaper than replacing the rear!
I'm still interested in what your plans are for the gearing.

Have the dealer do all the work under warranty and then have the rear end re-geared again?

Try to get the dealership to tear apart the new diff and your old diff to swap the gears over to the 'warranty' assembly?

I'm going to allow them to put it back as designated by them and then I will have the gearing re-done outside of the dealer as I do not trust their expertise. Currently running Dana 456 gears and considering changing those as I never hit 8th gear and do tow occassionally.

If the gears are still good, it would be a lot cheaper and easier to replace a bearing or bearings instead of swapping the axle assembly and paying to regear it again.

Do you have a shop you trust?

No I don't - looking for someone in Northern California area ....

4Wheel Parts have been doing most of my work and they are pretty decent and have corrected anything I did not like.

But I am open ....

I’d take it back to 4wp and let them look at it. You’re probably beyond their warranty period, but they might do you a favor or maybe they got some bad parts 2 years ago.

Don’t use 4wp. Use a place that only does gears. Call Sean at river city differential if you are in the Sacramento area or even wfo in auburn.
I normally wouldn’t use 4wp either, but I’d at least have them look at it since they did the gears.

Ok, as I understand, you had your axles regeared by an aftermarket shop, 2 yrs later your rear axle is making noise, you take it to the dealer hoping they don't notice that you had someone else work on it and cover it under warranty.

If this is the case, we should not wonder why dealers are quick to deny warranty coverage?

If the tech doing the work doesn't notice (and he probably won't), you may actually get away with this, but you will likely have stock gears in the rear and something different in the front.

P.S. I guess your not in Hawaii during this.

Okay, lets slow down a bit here guys ....

I have multiple jeeps including a Grand Wagoner Series III and am very supportive of the dealership network .

I brought my car in for normal service and was hearing an odd noise I have not heard before. My advisor had the car checked out and when I returned he told me the noise was from the rear axle and he was going to replace everything under manufactrurer warranty at no charge.

I said great and left it at that.

No deceptions to the dealer. I did not ask for anything but identifying the noise. If they will fix it then great. I am talking with parts to have them do the re-gear so everything is under the OEM umbrella .... since all my vehicles are serviced there.

I do appreciate everyone's input and support. Wishing you all a happy new years!
