So yesterday I jumped in the gladiator and set off to get a new winch. Jeep started fine. Bought the winch jeep started fine. Went to Sam's club jeep started fine and got gas. Jeep started fine. Heading home and stopped to grab something to eat and the jeep wouldn't start. Called my insurance and got a jump. Jeep started and died. Jumped it again and same thing. So had it towed to the dealership. Service guy thinks the batteries are dead. Anyone else ran into this situation. Just seeing if this is a normal thing or something else.

That is why I carry a jumper battery all the time. The batteries go without any warning .

The Jeep was just being polite and letting you know you're going to need a better battery if you want to run a winch ... or even have one.
I guess so. Well hopefully the dealership doesn't have my jeep forever and I get it back soon. And everything is good to go here. I'll post up whatever comes out with it

It's not a normal thing, but a common one reported here. The factory batteries last about three years, depending on how the vehicle is used. Sounds like a battery failure, could be the Main, Aux, or both.

Have you had any recent messages on the center screen, like ESS or Aux Switches unavailable?

The JT has a fairly high parasitic draw, especially with a cellular equipped head unit. If the batteries are not kept charged, they die early. If it is not driven enough to keep the batteries charged, it needs a battery maintainer connected when parked.

I Don't have any aux switches on mine. I didn't notice any messages when I drove it later. I know when I tried to start it it it went into starter protection mode. I'm not sure if this is related to it but my jeep rarely ever shut down at stop lights. Maybe the aux battery was weak and just finally gave up and killed my big battery. I usually keep my screen on the fuel economy screen so that maybe why I missed any warning message. I do drive my jeep on a regular basis due to my work schedule but not every day. I bought my jeep used. Figure it has the original batteries still. Which would be about 3 years old now.

It can go either way. My Main died first. The ESS not kicking in is a potential sign of battery issues.

If it's still within the 3/36 warranty period, Jeep should cover a dealer replacement. If not, they will want a lot for OEM quality replacements.

My service guy side it should be covered under warranty. I really am hopeful that he was correct in that statement. I only have 23k on my jeep. Don't think my extended warranty will cover it if the factory warranty is out.

The extended warranty doesn't cover batteries. As long as you're within 36 months of the original sale date, you're covered by the factory warranty.

Good grief! The comments! There are other things that will give you issues besides the batteries. Yes, the batteries can give you issues, but there are other things you can check before you drop a lot of money and buy new batteries.

1. Z Fuse array
2. Can-bus connector
3. Damaged or loose connections
4. Fuses
5. And last, Yes, batteries.

But..... If the service dept says it's the batteries, then I guess it's the batteries.

Another indicator before the batteries completely dying on you is the remote start. If the batteries are too low the remote start will not work.

Well put.
Also if not a battery warantee delete the aux and put in the next larger battery. Yes there is room and better for the winch.

Yep. When it was brand new <1000 miles. The new AUX battery was dead.
