The op said he wanted towing and trails. The rubicon will do that far better than either max tow or overland. Overland doesn’t have nearly the off road capabilities or towing capacity. Max tow doesn’t either, but does have the towing capacity.
Disagree ... unless you're actively rock crawling and/or snow wheeling and require lockers. If your primary concern is towing then the Max Tow will net you a few extras lbs of capacity over the standard Rubicon with same gearing and wide track axles (except 4lo ratio). The Rubicon will obviously give you a few certain features off the show room floor, but many of those features are negated if you have any plans to build on your own past stock.

Folks this is why we have choices. Just depends on what your looking for. If you need that extra bit of towing capacity, you need a max tow. If you're one to build your own, and have the skill to do it yourself, or the vision to know what you need to build it up, go for it on any trim. I just don't think it's a money saver, but that doesn't make it less admirable. You'll have a perfect vehicle adapted to your needs, which is extremely cool.

If warranty issues are a concern, or if you want the showroom-to-trail ready vehicle, and don't need the extra towing capacity, go Rubicon or Mojave.

I dig the Rubicon as much as I dig a sport or other trim, but I picked the one with the features and price point for me. The max tow was a non-starter, despite all it has going for it, because it has no manual. So that left me with sport (or s), Willys, Overland, Mojave, and Rubicon. Since I wanted the 4.1 axle ratio to push 35s and at least one locker, that left Rubicon and Mojave. Since there were no stickshift Mojaves in my area at the the time, that left Rubicon, which checked all of my boxes. Plus having electronic swaybar disconnect and front lockers is nice. I like it.

There's no desert anywhere near me, but there are plenty of rocks, so I don't really need the desert running features; I'd just be wasting them and the nice suspension on a Mojave. I decided against building a Sport or Willys simply because I don't have the skill to do the work myself, and they'd cost more for me to pay someone labor to build, vs a Rubicon.

I waited for the siping to wear off on the stock mud terrain tires, and then went to 35s, and a spacer lift. Those are my only mods so far, but no regrets.
Jeep on.

But not as good as something that isn’t lifted, I know fox shocks don’t exactly ride that great from experience.
Actually my fox 2.0 shocks ride much better than the stock rubicon “fox for Jeep” shocks. Much better. I understand your experience wasn’t great, but please refrain from stating things as if they are facts. Not all lifts are created equal.

I continue to disagree. Financially, you’re better off starting with a rubicon if you plan to use it offroad. The electric sway bar disconnect alone would cost probably a minimum of 2k to add.

I know for a fact yours won’t ride as well as my stock overland will but whatever you have to tell yourself to feel better about it

Talk about arrogance and denial. You can't claim it as a fact until you have actually driven both of the vehicles you are talking about. Anyway, I thought you posted a page or two back that you were done posting in this thread? No one has posted any support, in this thread, for your opinion on the Mojave. Nothing you can do will possibly sway them, except for having them take your Mojave for a drive.

Dude. You don’t know anything for a fact. Because you haven’t driven mine. You may have driven stock rubicons as have I, but have not driven mine. I know that for a fact.

I have though and something that’s lifted will never ride as well with something that is not

You also have an AT, an AT is a more aggressive tire with stiffer rubber that will not ride better than an All-season

I also recently test drove a $90,000 Grand Wagoneer and guess what it’s obviously lifted and guess what also rides like shit because of it, and this is supposed to be a luxury SUV

Maybe you just have a bony butt that is too sensitive and nothing feels good to ride in.

Nah, just lifts effect ride quality negatively, not in denial about it

You know you can change out tires on any of the Gladiator models, right? You aren't tied to what it came with...

To anyone trying to get something useful from this thread: Don't buy a truck based on the tires it comes with. Buy it because of the features and options it has that you want. Don't like ATs? Don't wear them. It's okay to change the tires out to what you want and like.

If you're really going to say the Mojave or Rubicon or any trim level rides bad because of the tires that come on it, and you need to buy a different trim because of said tires, that's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long long time.

Lifts CAN have a negative effect on ride quality. There is at least one poster in this thread that says otherwise.
