I'm surprised when you say replace the 3.8 lol, I just checked with Jasper and they don't have the 3.6L engine in stock right now.
I wonder why.. Nothing in Jeeps upcoming plans really point to getting rid of the 3.6, unless there is a production lull on the 3.6's right now as Jeep swaps the Gladiator lineup away from the Diesel to the 4xe and 2.0? Who knows..

I was shocked when I heard the engine was backorder. Jeep is making new vehicles every day, how can the engine be backorder, and there is no ETA yet, but it is true, it is really frustrating.

Let's be clear, it's on backorder for warranty replacements.

There's hundreds if not thousands of crate V6's at the plant but those are earmarked for production activities.

Well, I was thinking, can't they send an engine from the factory?

My car exploded after 26,000 miles. There is a big hole in the cylinder block. Now with the approval of Chrysler to replace it with a new engine.

But backorder, and the dealer has no ETA, has anyone had a similar experience? If the engine is backordered, how long will it take?

thanks

Production and service/warranty replacements are two different pipelines.

There is a logistical cost to each. Engines slated for production use are shipped in special multiple quantity palletized stacked racks and are kitted with the bits and bobs that will plug into a manufacturing production line fresh out of those racks.

Engines for service and warranty replacement at the dealer level are crated different and missing other things that are expected to be transferred over from the old engine.

The "Butterfly Effect" would be something stupid if a rando engine got pulled out of their vehicle assembly line queue to send to a dealer for a customer repair.
