So, i am on a 4.5 lift, trying to decide which size tires to get on my 20x12 wheels.
I have a Rubicon, and don't plan to off-road any time soon, but eventually regear and etc. So wondering if I would run into any issues running 40's on stock rubicon gears. If I trash them, then it would be all the more reason to upgrade. but dont want to do it for a little while.
thoughts?

Otherwise was going to run 38's. I ran 37's on my 3.5 lifted JKU with stock (non-rubi) gears for years and never had a single issue

Thoughts....curious as to why to spend all that cash for a lift and tires that will decrease on-road performance only to never take it off-road.

So...if it's the look you are going for and don't care about losing performance I don't see any problems with running 40s on the stock setup. Yep it's a bit much for the stock axles..but street use only probably the biggest noticeable problems will be loss of power (gearing, tire weight, etc) and braking. Probably go through ball joints more often. If you are specifically asking if you will trash the ring and pinion because of the 40s...they should be fine....
