For all of us with the 5 inch radio and looking to upgrade I have complied a list of required items with numbers. Radio's are tough to come by with the Chip shortage - so don't expect much to be in stock right now - nor are new models being released for some time. As a result not much testing is being done either to see what actually fits.

Option 1: Upgrade to 7.4 UCONNECT
PROS: Direct Swap
CONS: Lose dash volume/tuning control knobs and on/off switch for radio (Can swap in an upgraded climate control panel - but you will have non-working auto hvac controls on your dash)

Option 2: Aftermarket Radio
PROS: Different options - customizable - upgradeable
CONS: Few in stock options at the moment - loss of HD backup cam (Unless you are willing to get the STINGER or Insane Audio) No wireless carplay options yet.

JTs have a depth clearance for a double din of less than 4 inches. There are only a few slim/modular options at the moment - and many of the 9" floating screens are unknown in compatibility. I believe there is a chance a single din with the 9" on the bottom would fit - but no authority has tried that I am aware of.

JVC: KWM650 (DISCONTINUED) KWM 750BT
Alpine: ILX 407 (NEW MODEL) 650 (OLD MODEL) 207 (PENDING MODEL)
Pioneer: DMH C 2500NEX/2550NEX (MODULAR)
Kenwood: 706S/7706S
Stinger: HEIGH10
Insane Audio: JL3001

Steering wheel Adaptor kits: IDATALINK MAESTRO RR/RR2 - PAC RP4-CH11 - Metra Axxess ASWC-1 (must get corresponding harness for radio connection)
Dash Kits: METRA 107CH38 for 7" screens - can utilize METRA 109-UN02 for a floating 9" screen. STINGER and Insane Audio have a custom dash setup. Alpine has a scoshe integrated kit that doesn't seem to work for the HVAC controls and I would stay away from that setup.

Other Items needed to complete installation: FIBER to RCA converter for factory backup cam (NOT needed on STINGER as they integrated a fiber connection)
ANTENNA ADAPTOR

All this combined should get you an idea of what is available.

Fiber? I believe the back up cam is acutally AHD.

Actually the camera is a LVDS backup camera. Low Voltage Differential Signaling. Its much like Fiber - But will require an LVDS to RCA converter OR replacement to non-HD.

It isn't perfect, but have been really happy with the Insane Audio jl3001.

No extra parts to buy and everything still works other than the Compass and music info in the cluster display.

I probably would have gone for the Heigh 10 for the slightly larger screen, but the jl3001 allows me to install Android apps so I can run Gaia and other mapping (or anything really) apps without having to use another display.

I'm also not a big fan of Android auto, so I don't need to bother with it with an android head unit.

That’s a good point. I left off the insane audio replacement. I appreciate the insight.

Can you provide some feedback on the function. I’ve read about issues with CarPlay not working.

Unfortunately right now I can't. I bought the unit used from a forum member and when I got it set up I reset it to factory settings, but that seems to have removed the registration code for the zlink app which runs both Android Auto and Carplay.

I still need to get ahold of IA to get the code, but as soon as that happens I'll let you know.
