665 miles and already have a throttle issue…

We are driving up to the Eastern Sierras yesterday and as we are going up the grade between Bishop and Mammoth I pull over for a bathroom break and when we get back in the jeep and continue the throttle all the way to the floor it won’t go over 30mph! WTF?! I pull over turn it off turn back on and it goes like normal. Later about 20 miles after getting gas it happens again but this time the check engine light comes on and a warning message that says my electronic throttle control needs service. Along with another message about the on/off function has been disabled. It goes into the 30mph limp mode again. We pull over turn off. Wait 15 seconds turn back on and back to reg. Driving mode full acceleration etc. Only this time the check engine light is staying on…. My heart just sank having these kinds of issues 665 miles on a brand new truck…. Any advice would be appreciated. PS we are 300 miles away from a dealership and up in the mountains. I am constantly monitoring all of the temp, oil pressure and voltage and everything is perfect so…

Do you have a factory air intake? I only ask because I once had an aftermarket one that was incorrectly installed. It caused the CAI gasket on throttle body side to get sucked into the throttle body which blocked the valve from opening/closing properly. Threw a code and limped my engine.

Just a guess though. If you have the factory intake then ignore this.

All factory. Only 690 miles currently

I would check all of the electrical connections around the throttle body and even the fuses, just make sure there in all the way.

You said you stopped for gas. That might be the problem you should be using diesel fuel.

I pushed on all of the fuses and three actually pushed down a bit. My check engine light is of and there are no saved messages. Hopefully it was just some ghosts in the machine but we will certainly find out on the drive home Tuesday…?

wanted to update this, I am currently around 4000 plus miles and have had zero issues. I honestly think the fuses weren't seated from the factory. After we got about 1500 miles the MPG went from around 20 to 27. I'm super impressed with this little diesel! I had to sell my 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 diesel. I loved that engine and could literally tow anything. Unfortunately the cost of fuel just made it not viable anymore. I'm happy now that I'm getting twice the mileage I did with all the off road capability and more with the new Gladiator. I love the torque of the diesel and would never go back to gas. I struggled for years to get my 2002 TJ to have more power while making it more off road capable. The new jeep diesel IMHO solves that age old problem but doesn't sacrifice range like a v8 would.

Hopefully fixed now? IT's the throttle body. I am guessing they got a bad batch or something. I had the same issue at 1,800 miles. Dealership switched out the throttle body and it's been fine. I just drove to the West coast and back (From Ohio) so I jjst hit 10,000 miles and no more issues.
