So I went to hook up to my PWC trailer and I had no lights on the trailer using the 4 pin connector on Gladiator. So I went to use the 7 to 4 pin adapter and when I opened the cover on the 7 pin, black powder and one of the medal pins falls out. I go under neath rear bumper and the plastic housing and wiring going into the 7 PIN was black. So it actually fried. I took it to dealer, they initially said it must have been my trailer that shorted it out. I take it back again tomorrow for them to investigate more. I tested my trailer and all is checking out good with voltage ohm ( trailer has old bulb style lights). So this weekend I went ahead and installed new LED's and new wires on the trailer. All the old lights and wires looked good. Dealer said if I have to pay for them to fix it could be anywhere from $660 to replace just the 7 pin or up to $3000 if the wiring harness is bad. I am hoping warranty will take care of it, but does anyone know if a bad trailer light would take out the entire connector on the Jeep side? I would think at most it would just blow a fuse.

Certainly this is what fuses are for?

I have had my trailer plug get warm and soft from battery charging, but would think a fuse should blow before the truck burn down?
