Yea, think I would send some hired help to help educate him. Sorry that really sucks!

Can't say that I am surprised at all. That, to me is the only real downside to driving stick. Letting other people drive.

I've been fantasizing about a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder ever since I saw the movie.

I know it's a multi million dollar collector's item but some company made a fiberglas replica back in the 80's and I'd be happy with one IF it were extremely well done. It's a Lotto winner dream of mine.

Was at a house in CT doing some security work, in their second garage was a 1964 Ferrari 250 California convertable and matching coupe! There was also a Bugatti Veyron, new version Porsche 918 Spyder and a bunch more other cars. The helicopter parked out front was a little giveaway they had some cool stuff.

Of course, I was playing it cool, didn't ask many questions and then talking to one of the guys I work with later, he said, "Did you ask to check them out? He would have totally started them up and let you check them out!" SOB!

Professional drivers? How about millennials who've never driven a stick shift? Moral of the story is to park your own vehicle vs valet. Heck, my own kids have never driven my JT.

Millennials are nearly 30 to just over 40. I think you mean “the youth”. There are many people of all ages who have never driven stick. I’d wager that the majority of drivers under 60 have never driven a manual.

I agree with you on the valet thing though.

I had a brand new Subaru Outback that I had to drive to New York City and leave overnight in a parking garage once. When I got it back the next day it had 14 additional miles on it and a lot less gas. I’m pretty sure they used it as an Uber or something.

Thanks for the reminder why I never valet! My Jeep is a stick and my wife’s car is RWD with 518 HP, both would be a concern.

I went through this with a GTI I had, though not as bad. Ever since I always ask “do you know how to drive a stick?” And if there is any doubt, I ask to get someone who can drive a stick. They hire kids and 99%+ vehicles they see are automatics.

Sorry OP. That sucks.

I don’t do valet parking. Period.

A good amount of the garages up in the big shitty are mandatory valet parking. I’ve got an automatic and I’d go an extra block or two for a self-park garage before I’d let someone park my vehicle. I.e. I can pick out a spot that’s next to a pillar where I’ve only got to worry about a vehicle on one side, don’t have to worry about a smoker parking it (it takes time for the smell to dissipate), etc.

“I can drive stick” means something different to everyone. To some folks, if they can floor it, dump the clutch, and get it a few hundred feet to get the vehicle into a parking spot, they can operate a manual transmission.

It only took 14 miles to use up "a lot less gas"? I thought Outbacks were fairly fuel-efficient?

I probably should have also said that my average mpg had also dropped from around 30 to something like 10 (it was a few years ago I don’t recall exactly). I think they spent the night riding around but mostly stop/start or sitting still in NYC traffic.
