Adding lights to AUX switches.

My 23 came with the aux switch panel. When adding LED lights, are you working direct to the switch or using a relay? Most of the lights I've looked at come with a relay in the wiring.

The output of the aux switch system is already through relays. Another isn't necessary. (unless your lighting exceeds the capacity of those aux switch relays)
nothing at all goes directly through those switches. Those aux switches in the cab electronically control relays in the PDC - power distribution center (fuse panel).
So when you connect to one of those 4 wires under the hood near the battery, those come from 4 relays.

Only reason to add an additional relay would be to run lights exceeding the amperage of the aux circuit. For instance aux1 and aux2 are 40 amps, which should cover a ton of LED lights. But aux3 and aux4 are 15 amps - and you might exceed that. In that case, you could use aux3 (for instance) to trigger the extra relay running fused power straight from one of the battery terminals. A little more complex but saves running an extra switch into the cab.

Aux 1 and 2 are fused at 40 amps
3 and 4 are 15 amps - plenty to handle most LED lighting.

When I did my LED spot lights, I used switch number 3, 15 amp. I cut the harness they came with (eliminated the relay) and left the + & - wires only. Works like a charm. Make sure you select the proper settings for the switches through the radio. Good luck.
