Advice on 40s for 2024 Rubicon X

I'm ordering a new Gladiator and planning to put MT 40s on it. I read that the Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 and BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 are highly rated tires, although I don't see them offered in 40" size.

Looking for any wheel/tire advice from the vast pool of experience on this site. Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

BFG KM3 come 39"x13.50"x17" as I recall, but BFG also tend to run small.

What suspension upgrades are you making to support that large of a tire? For looks or off-road performance? How much poke are you looking to have or not have?(wheel offset/backspacing)

In my opinion, 40’s is a huge financial, never-ending loop of repair and replace, hell I think 37’s are the same loop. The larger you go with tires, the heavier they are and quicker they wear out components. I waited to do my lift and tires until I figured out what my plans were with the Gladiator, but I also had a lifted JKU to wheel with while I was figuring things out.

For wheeling the Gladiator, I feel like 37’s and a 3-4” lift are all that is needed, anything that requires more lift/larger tires really needs a different vehicle. The Gladiator is neither a great Jeep for wheeling nor a great truck, but it is hands down the greatest Jeep truck for off-roading.

If 40’s are your goal, go for it and make sure to show it off here!

Hydro steering, Rcv axles w/fad delete, artech truss, be on the ready with ball joints, 1350 yolk when you regear, stick new knuckles on the list if your factory units are aluminum.

Wheels 0 offset will likely rub -12/-18 on an 8.5 should get you pretty close to set- assuming you are pulling the factory inner liners/lower fenders.
Wheel with a light right foot and you should be good to go. ???

Edit- you are in West Virginia- not the south west…. Just start looking for a one ton setup now if you plan to wheel… your mud and no-traction rocks require wheel speed and momentum which is a recipe for snapping metal bits… if you don’t intend to leave fire service roads or wheel low and slow like most of the West Coast the advise above stands with building of the factory housing.

3.5" lift (franken lift, a few different brands mixed together.)
40s on 17x9 with 3.5" bs wheels
Apex 2" Aluminum steering
Fox ATS
steering box brace.

Fender chop and Motobilt high line inner fenders coming soon.

Drives amazing, and cruises down the highway with 1 finger at 75.

But it also sees minimal off-road, because I also have a rock buggy on 40s.
