Have a question for those that have aftermarket hood latches. I have to replace mine do to animals eating the stock plastic. I bought some aftermarket aluminum latches and noticed they dont have a built in hood rest like the stockers. There is no other hood bumper near the corner. I mounted them but they would promplty vibrate open. Tightened them up as instructions said, but it distorted the hood when tight since there is nothing for them to tighten against. I guess I could fashion a rubber bumper under the hood corners but wanted to see it anyone else noticed this.

I have purchased two sets of locking hood latches off of Amazon and they have both worked great. They came with a replacement for the hood rest if I follow your description. IOW, the latches came with the part that bolts to the fender and a smaller piece that replaces the catch on the hood.

If you have pictures of the hood latch maybe we can get a better idea on what the problem is.

For reference, I got this one for both my JT and JL and we love it, works great!

I circled the stock hood rest that is part of the hinge. Most aftermarket hinges dont have that. Without it you have nothing to sinch the hood down to. Imallcrawl, the hinges you showed look like they will work, but I dont need a lock.

Sorry what I meant was, what happen to the old plastic/rubber hood rests from the old latch? Could you re-use them or no?

As far as I can tell they are part of the assembly

On mine, it just pops off. If you can take yours off, maybe you can re-use it?

The rubber pops off, but it has to have something to mount to? Most aftermarket latches are meant for a JK which has a hood rest seperate from the hinge. Im not sure how everyone is doing this without realy warping the hood.

My aftermarket latch was made for the JT / JL, by any chance did you buy the wrong latch that was made for the JK? Do you have the make and model of the new latch you bought?
