All i do is roll it out, make sure the two "slide notches" are placed in the slots, then simply push on one side, above the bar under the cover and it "snaps" and locks. super simple, super effective. I keep reading about these issues, maybe it's with the vinyl version??? If i get a chance, i'll take a video of the easy process...
so you found the magic spot to push to lock it? is it a little button the size of a pen cap? I felt something like that at the dealer, but it wouldn't click/lock. bestop seems to be avoiding the topic.

I should post a video too. What you're describing just sounds like closing it, where it "snaps" into place, then you close the tailgate.

If this is done, I can easily just pry up a corner of the topper and it opens up.

Somebody on the facebook group has said there is a magical spot that you push to actually LOCK the cover in the down position until you pull the red nylon straps. that was from this photo earlier in the thread, i'll try to quote it below.

Here is the video I was referring to. He explains on the fb thread that after push down on that spot once closed it will click and be locked. He posted a video but I can’t upload it here because of file type.

In the video that was posted on the fb thread, the user pressed on that spot, and then pulled up on the back of the cover and made it look like it wouldn’t flip up into weekend warrior mode without pulling that strap. Even had the tailgate down at that point. However, after testing this over 40 times on my own, I feel the guy was trolling people.

Come on, it's a soft roll up cover. Even if it did lock, anyone that wanted in could just cut it open with a pocket knife...

my friend once told me that locks keep honest people honest.

Yes if a thief wanted to get it, they'd just cut it, but if joe shmo is just snooping and can't open it, he's not going to open his knife and do it.

But if it does just pop open for joe shmo, he might steal your XYZ.

contacted facebook guy, got video with screen capture. its in mp4 mode, ugh. gotta stream it.

the video looks legit. perhaps that little silver latch thingy isn't aligned just right. You can hear a clicking when he lifts up on the cover at the end. it only makes sense those straps undo some kind of lock/latch.

This little silver thing moves when he pulls the red strap at 7 seconds on the video.

There is no “magic” button to lock the first flap of the rollup bed cover on my Rubi. There is nothing that locks into the tailgate to secure that first flap either. There is only the interference of the rubber seal to the tailgate that secures it. I don't get it..... there is a key lock on the seat back of the rear seats to protect nearly no storage room. No seat locks on the bottom of them to help protect actual storage space and no way to lock the tonneau. Don't really care about locking that first flap, but a keyed lock for the second latching flap sure would have been a good idea.

This has turned into Plywood 2.0. Can we have a contest where the first person to post a video of them successfully locking their factory soft tonneau cover wins a prize?

makes me wonder if some people don't have that little latch part at all and just have the plastic piece that hooks into the platic notch? WHERE'S @Jake FROM STATE FARM? He's my normal conspiracy buddy. lol :movember:

That latch is there on mine. This is what I consider the second flap. I sure don't see any way there is a locking mechanism to prevent the red strap from being pulled and unlatching it. I would have expected something akin to the pull strap lock on the rear seat backs.

Dude!

@Jake has stated probably 100 times, he has never nor never intends to work at State Farm! He isn't even a customer of State Farm! He much prefers Geico as they have better customer service (His words not mine).

Steffen, that picture you just posted is the first flap that meets the tailgate.

lol, now i understand what you're saying, some people claim the first flap is also "locked" into position, like in that video above.
