Looking for anyone who has one of these. Really close to pulling the trigger on the purchase of one to pair with my Alu-Cab bed Cap.
A big question I have about all the hardshell clam style RTT's is the sealing of the two halves when closed up. There never seems much mention of this or close up photos as to whether there is a soft seal or overhanging lip that establishes a rain seal.
Anyone have experience with water intrusion going down the road or long time closed stationary storage with water getting in?

I'm on my second AluCab RTT. Owned the original Gen 3 for over 3 years with zero issues and upgraded to the Gen 3.1 last week.

No leaking problems at all. Just don't power wash directly into the rubber seals though as best practice. Always air out the tent after each use or, if not in use, about once a month. Condensation will soak the bottom of the mattress in cold weather camping conditions and you'll never even know it.

IMO it's the best RTT on the market.

@darkhorse13 , thanks for the reply. Pretty sure I'm pulling the trigger tomorrow for a v3.1. Stinks that it won't be back in stock until June......
So you haven't swapped the new one onto the JT yet?
Your pic is of the v3.
What do you hope to sell the old one for? Just curious on the resale value.
They sure look to be a sweet set up.

How does it do down the road? Do you always know it is there? Affect mpg in a noticeable way?

Yeah, that was just the easiest pic to grab on my PC at the moment. Here's a Gen 3.1 photo from this weekend. After 3 years I sold the Gen 3 tent for $3K... so yeah it held value really well given a new one is $3500 MSRP (if you can get one :) )... seems to be a seller's market for a lot of outdoor equipment these days.

It dropped my rear Clayton 3.5 in springs by 0.5" and probably cuts MPG's too. Not really something I sweat as I'm already heavy and under geared with stock 4.10's. It has not impeded with my ability to 4x4 though. At the end of the day I have to drive my truck home and I don't pretend it's a rock crawler.

Pulled the trigger and placed my order for an AluCab RTT V3.1 Expedition. Pretty stoked but delivery won't be until June. That gives me time to dust off the '48 CJ2a and get the gin pole set up on the front. Will use that to install the tent on top of the Gladiator. I'm also going to try the tent out on my M416 trailer for kicks. That will probably be the winter storage spot for the RTT anyways if I don't leave it on the JT.

My AluCab RTT has left Australia. If it doesn't end up on the news sideways in the Suez Canal I hope to see it in 4-5 weeks. I predict some time off from work coming.......

Getting prepped for the arrival of my AluCab RTT. Set up a 23 ft aluminum gin pole on my ‘48 CJ2a. This is the only other Jeep I've had until the JT arrived on the scene. I've owned it for 35 years. It took a few model years before another Jeep came along that I wanted to own....
I had made this set up to install solar panels many years ago. No problem lifting 300lbs so the RTT is a snap.
Neighbors are scratching their heads.

My RTT has shipped from NJ. Was hoping it would arrive today but it looks like it won't be until Monday. Really stoked for the arrival and getting it set up.

Big box and pallet....... Looks well crated. The cardboard is an inch thick.

RTT arrived Monday early afternoon. Trucking company was totally unprepared to unload it. Driver said he wasn't allowed to back up...... had to unload the box truck in the street. One pallet jack for a nearly ten foot skid. WTF. I was better prepared than he was for sure.
Anyhow, I got it unloaded and into my shop. Used a ceiling hoist to pick off the pallet and laid flat to unbox.
I then hoisted it onto my M416 trailer so I could wheel it about. Looked pretty good on the trailer!
Used the gin pole on the '48 Willys and a block and tackle to hoist off the trailer outside. Pulled the trailer out, continued the lift until I could drive the JT underneath it.
Set it on the three crossbars atop the AluCab canopy. Bolted up a few brackets so I could move up the driveway to level ground. The OVS 270 awning brackets were a problem. Took the awning off to mount the RTT where it needed to go using six brackets instead of four. New awning brackets are coming tomorrow that mount the awning to the RTT.
This tent is friggin awesome!!! Slept in it in my driveway that night just to try it out. Absolutely love it. Was it cheap? No. But your paying for exceptional build quality and it is worth it.

Had to shuffle the RTT position a bit and fabricated some plates to mount the OVS 270 awning to the AluCab awning mounts connected to the RTT. Everything fit up pretty well in the end. Really digging the setup.

Well, it's not out in the wilderness but this campout is in a railroad yard where I spend time restoring a 1924 steam locomotive. Takes about ten minutes to have camp set up with no lifting other than camp chairs.
The bedslide I made, galley, fridge, lithium power, inverter, DC/DC charger, propane griddle, WaterPort.
