It was a weekday. I had the JT out of the garage so I could open the rag top and install a 12v power plug by the cup holders in the back seat area, my daughter has to charge her phone, tablet or Bluetooth Headphones on long trips. I think it was around 1 or 2 in the afternoon when I heard a group of Junior high or Senior high males jogging down our neighborhood street, I looked up to see it was a group of about 20-30, probably doing their Physical Ed class stuff. I was in the middle of pulling and hiding the wires in the center console when I heard several compliments from the group, "Hey, I like your Jeep", "Nice Jeep" and so on. I looked up and said "thanks" to them and fired off the Jeep Wave as they passed by, when all of a sudden one of those young gentlemen ran right into our mailbox which is located on the sidewalk, the mailbox is supported by a 3-1/2' metal stand. He ran into it with the bottom of his rib cage/upper stomach and there was just enough spring in it to send him backwards and to the ground after impact. Trying to breath, he rolled over to the lawn with the wind knocked out of him. All his classmates gathered round, and watched him in agony as he tried to get his lungs to start bringing in some of that much needed air. I went over to the group and politely asked them to give him a little room, and I also wanted to get a look at him to make sure there was no blood and he could actually catch his breath. It took him a couple of minutes to gather his senses and get back up on his feet. I'm sure he was quite embarrassed but he did got upright ok and and eventually got back on track with his classmates and their run. I was still kind of stunned at would had happened, but all seemed well so I went back to my 12v project. I sure hope he was alright.

My mailbox latch was broken off and the support pole was definitely bent, but thats easily repaired. That story being told, I do hate how our mailboxes are located on the side walk. When my son was younger he rode his bike right into one while we were on a neighborhood family bike ride.

Glad everyone is ok. I was hoping that mailbox didn’t hit your Jeep too. Nice story.

That's the script for this year's Jeep Super Bowl ad.

i was waiting in suspense for the mailbox to break and crash into the hood of the Gladiator.......thank god it was just the wind and embarrassment that was jostled. lol
