I put 37’s on my JTR Max Tow about 2 months ago. My daily routes, IMO, did not indicate any necessity for re-gearing. The transmission still ran through its regular progressions, and I did not lose any gears. My change in fuel consumption has been minimal.

Yesterday, I towed a trailer for the first time with the new wheels and tires. Even before I loaded the trailer, it was awful. It wanted to stay in 4th at 70. It basically redlined every gear before it would shift up. Even if I tried manual, it would override my gear selection.

So, my opinion is that if you want the bigger tires, and you plan on towing or adding any additional significant weight, go ahead and price in re-gearing.

Thanks for the first hand impression on the effect of 37’s with 4:10 gears. For me with 3:73 gears any tire greater than 33’s rehearing is recommended. Just to give a better perspective of your situation what do you estimate the weight of the trailer your towing?

Great question. The trailer is a 16’ trailer. I’ve included a picture of it (prior to wheel/tire change). The load I was hauling in it today was maybe an additional 400 pounds over trailer weight. It was just too bulky for the truck bed.

Good looking Jeep! The trailer itself is a good sized load. I can imagine once it is loaded the effect it has on your Gladiator.

I have a JTR with the Trailer-Tow Package.

ETA: I see my error. I guess the Sport S has an option specifically called "Max Tow" whereas the others are labeled "Trailer-Tow Package."
