I put 37’s on my JTR Max Tow about 2 months ago. My daily routes, IMO, did not indicate any necessity for re-gearing. The transmission still ran through its regular progressions, and I did not lose any gears. My change in fuel consumption has been minimal.
Yesterday, I towed a trailer for the first time with the new wheels and tires. Even before I loaded the trailer, it was awful. It wanted to stay in 4th at 70. It basically redlined every gear before it would shift up. Even if I tried manual, it would override my gear selection.
So, my opinion is that if you want the bigger tires, and you plan on towing or adding any additional significant weight, go ahead and price in re-gearing.
