The joke around the office when they tried to merge with Renault was FCA's electrification plan was to merge with Renault lol.

Seems that's true, and now they're playing catch up.
Renault, ewwww. pile of French garbage. If their current product line is anything like the cars they offered here stateside back in the 80's then that brand should be dead by now. When they pulled out of the NA market back in 87 the dealership I was working at couldn't give those cars away. Crappiest hunks of tin I've ever seen. We sold more Fiero's than those.....that's telling you something right there. LOL

The only reason the FCA/Renault merger was stopped was the French government.

It's not as if Fiat, Peugeot, or Chrysler are known for high quality automobiles anyway 😂

So, if we're to guess the announcement / reveal will be at SEMA, that's November 5-8. The LA Auto Show is November 21 - December 1. And Easter Jeep Safari is April 12 - April 20.

I think the Jeep Recon all electric is due out for 2025, also, so that might take the spotlight at those shows, and/or "partner up" like the Rivian release with 3 new models, boding well for a 4xe.

(All speculation, but that's what morning coffee is for.)

Once I know if 4xe is coming or not for this next year, and/or bikini, and the prices of both, I can compare against an Ecodiesel in a higher-level trim. If it's like "75k for 4xe", that choice is made for me: $30k used diesel. If it's $45k bikini gasser (w/ airbags and new interior, grille) vs $30k diesel in not bikini but a higher trim (eg, Overland), my decision is harder.

Historically - you must be referring to the Chrysler buyout of AMC. That's one event, and I don't really call that historically as Chrysler Corp has been passed around like a rotten potato and all parts have stayed with Jeep.
The only reason for the bit you refer to is that -

* AMC was producing only two products by 1987 - Eagle Wagon, Jeep vehicles.

* Iacocca wanted one thing when he raped and pillaged AMC - the Grand Cherokee AMC had developed. I know this first-hand from a design engineer who worked there and was in the rooms at the time. (and some engine designs AMC had coming, but had not yet brought to production due to Renault sucking all the cash out of the company like they always do)

So there was nothing to kill off - the Eagle was already long in tooth and sales falling by that point. Cash poor, AMC wasn't able to get the magnum-type engine designs to production.
Chrysler did keep the Eagle name alive for a while, sticking it on an import, but Chrysler was still suffering from quite a few issues and had to slim things down.
By the time Iacocca pillaged AMC, Jeep was pretty much all that was left. There wasn't anything else to shut down. AMC had already sold off some other companies they owned - Wheel Horse, a plastics company that made interior parts for themselves, Ford and others, AM General (that had to be sold off because of Renault being foreign, and the military contracts AM General had), and so on.

After that, Jeep has stayed with Chrysler. Daimler Chrysler, FCA, etc..

I still go back to - why in the hell would Stellantis sell off the only thing keeping them alive?
it makes no sense and I can't see how anyone figures a company would sell off the only thing keeping them afloat. It's silly - or worse.
Why still the talk of Stellantis selling Jeep?
They'd go bust!
You simply don't sell the one product line that actually makes money and keep the stuff that's sinking you.
You terminate the lines that are pulling you down, that are unprofitable, and keep the rest.
That won’t happen anytime soon unless the offer is unreal.

Why not the Detroit Auto Show in January?
