I'm 55 years old and a type-1 diabetic. For those who are unfamiliar, type-1 diabetes (also referred to as juvenile diabetes) is an autoimmune disorder caused by the immune system attacking the pancreas and causing it to no longer create insulin. I became a type-1 diabetic in 2022 when the immunotherapy cancer treatment that I was receiving for stage-4 melanoma jacked up my immune system and fried my pancreas. I was just curious if there were and other T1Ds it there in the Gladiator world. I have an insulin pump, which makes things a little easier. I have to carry snacks with me everywhere in case my glucose level drops. It's like having a full time job that never stops. Earlier tonight, my glucose level dropped to 32 because my CGM was not properly calibrated. I also have to have a backup method for insulin delivery in case my pump malfunctions. It's no fun, I will tell you that.

That sucks.

I'm type 2. I had kidney surgery about 3 yrs ago. About a month after the surgery, I had an appointment with my PCP. Did blood work and my A1C was 9. I got it back down to 6. I blame the spike on the surgery. Doc got me on 2 meds.

I'm not sure which is worse. Type-1 can't be ignored, but it is much more predictable than type-2. My dad is type-2 and struggles with his A1c. Mine hovers around 5.6 but my type-A personality doesn't let me stop worrying about it.

I eat pretty much anything. But do watch the amount on some foods. Pasta and potatoes I love but they hate me. Those 2 will drive my morning sugar check to 190. Otherwise it sits between 130 to 140.
