I have one of these sitting in the box in my basement waiting for some warmer weather to install it. I am a bit bummed that the back isn’t made to fold up, as that’s what it looked like in the pics, and I searched everywhere before ordering for any more pics, videos, or information. All I had was the pics on the RR site and now I feel like they were a little misleading.
guess I’ll just have to install it and see how it goes, the plan was to run it only in the summer anyway, and hard top back on in the winter. Hopefully this at least gets some more competition going for third party tops and someone makes one that works the way I want it to…

I liked the suntops one a lot too. But I don't now what happened to them. They seem to have disappeared. The back window came off with the suntop.

How much head room is lost(I’m 6’5”, head room is already limited)? It looks like it sits even with the top of the roll bars.
Working from memory, an inch, maybe inch and quarter above the top of roll bar. Again, that’s on the JLU and working from memory. It was on the wife’s Jeep, so I didn’t drive it a whole lot (and why would I when I own a JT? Lol)

You'd be amazed how much I drive my wife's JL. We use it as the family mobile.

Have a look at the directions. If the back window can be removed, and the part over the rear seats has straps going around the roll bars and under the seat belt connections, then it’s made like the JLU version and can be flipped forward under the front as I described. I haven’t seen the directions for this one to be able to tell.

She makes me drive when we go anywhere. So if I’m driving, I’m driving mine.

the instructions are awful, but that’s what it looks like. So it sounds like it’s still doable, which is good. I wonder why they said it’s not safe, maybe I’ll keep some bungees to wrap around for extra safety or something. At least it’s still as open as the best top sunrider I guess.

What you are asking is exactly what the rugged ridge support described and said would work. He just noted that driving about 60min you would want to actually grab a strap and secure the top to the sound bar to avoid any potential problems.

I ordered mine and am hoping it works. I have tracking already and rugged ridge gives you some time for returns so I have to mount it to make my final decision. I’ll post picks in this forum.

still under 30° here so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can get mine on. Hope you’ll put up some pics if you get it on before then. Hopefully the directions make more sense when you’re actually installing it than they do just reading them. I think I’ll probably just get some straps with buckles from Amazon after I see how long they need to be.

I’m gonna put it on and take it off after I take pics. Read the directions and def vague but hope it’s intuitive once I’m doing it.

Haha you’re in the same boat then, I’m in PA.
That was my hope for installation too. Glad I can see how it goes for you first!

I’m with the other cold weather poster. I’ve got a tracking number, should be here soon. But I’m hoping you warm weather folks iron out all the installation kinks. Still a little on the cold side here in Michigan.

Well this sucks! The picture on Rugged Ridge website with the top completely opened is misleading. I know the text says the top flips back, but I didn't think that meant the whole top could not be taken off...

I still have mine on order, hoping that the back can removed and/or flipped forward and strapped down.

Anyone who installs one please clarify and share photos/videos. Thanks!

I was about to order one and then came back to read this thread. I want the front to fold back and the back to fold forward. What is the point of a soft top if you can't fold it all out of the way in some manner.

I'm hoping someone can figure out a way to get this to work in the way we all want it to, thanks to all the folks giving this thing a test run I appreciate it.

As soon as we get a decent weekend here in PA I’ll have mine on. I preemptively bought some straps with buckles that I will just store in the Jeep. That way if the back needs secured a little more when folded up I’ll just wrap them and go. That’s at least what I think the plan will have to be after reading the recent other responses.
