I, like many of you, cut the air dam pieces shortly after bringing the jeep home.

Now that ive had more time to think, two years or so, I’ve really wondered if they legitimately had a function.

i get it that the would change the air flow, but is it really THAT different?

ive even thought about reinstalling the old bumper and getting a set to out back on just to see if they actually have an effect.

but figured id poke the bear here first. The search function comes up with a LOT of results, but ill be honest my ADD has gotten the best of me.

Reportedly, it gets you, like 1mpg, better fuel economy.

Hell I'm still trying to figure out why mine didn't come with them?! Not complaining they're hideous! I got 29mph on a trip to Oregon. Just recently got 27 going to the Bay area. But now I have the Wildpeak AT's so a couple mph less is expected.

They are for aerodynamics but I can’t blame anybody for ditching them

Never had them on the JTR, nor on two 2018 JLU Saharas. Ugly.

Probably more like .1 MPG. All about fractional fleet improvements. Right up there with the FAD. .1 here, .2 there, etc and you end up with maybe 1 or 2 MPG. Like getting juice from a turnip.

man, screw it.

i did an experiment of sorts on potentially going back to a more oem tire size and was pleased with the outcome.

ill order the replacement air dam pieces and throw it back on to see.

fortunately i have a relatively controlled setting to assess for gains v/s losses without TOO many variables.

Its fuel efficiency, helps with the air turbulence in the wheel wells, by letting less air hit the spinning wheel it reduces turbulence and makes it easier for air to wrap around/past the car.
I cant find anything for jeeps, but part of the reason most cars from every manufacturer look the same is physics... this link is under bumper aero dams for trucks, cause no one else just opens the wheel wells. https://nacfe.org/technology/aerodynamic-bumpers/

The 2020 sport max Tows came with them at least the base model, they are to improve MPGs and do make a difference. I had them on mine and when I removed them I noticed more wind getting inside the fenders when I drove and could feel the lag on the JT. It is worse if your lifted not so much of a difference if your sitting stock. When I was making a decision on a bumper I took those into consideration and that's why I ended up going with the one I did because it closed that gap back in. Within a few days I gained back almost 1 mpg and that was with adding more weight to the front end with a 80lb bumper and 60lb winch.
