If I try to upload any videos of any length to this forum, they’re broken. I’ve tried reducing quality even to 480P. I’ve tried conversion to MP4. I’ve tried uploading from a computer instead of my phone, various browsers and the app. Nothing works. I have no problems playing videos on other sites but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything because different sites use different APIs. Just googling this issue, some other forums have been experiencing similar issues. I now see that all videos on this forum are broken for all my Apple devices.

Please no trolling “just use Android/Windows” unhelpful bs.

I played with this some tonight on with the dev console in MacOS Safari 17.4 and did some research on the web. This appears to be a WebKit problem, however, site devs are apparently modifying the DOM to fix this. Not sure what they're doing, although some kind of incompatibility with blob storage is claimed to be the issue.. The Safari tech preview still has the bug. Some similar or related issues are claimed to be fixed in iOS Safari 17.5. Google Chrome displays the videos fine. Opera has the same issue. I'm not sure when this started for me, but I think it was iOS 17.4 and whenever Safari 17.4 for MacOS came out. Add this to the growing mountain of poorly tested Apple software and inexcusable bugs. Generally speaking browser updates should be backwards compatible with existing websites. You could chalk this up to Apple arrogance, since they're not the only or even most popular browser, but I think it's just incompetence.

My only issue is that I never log into YouTube in order to avoid their algorithms when viewing content. They still clearly create IP-based shadow profiles, but at least I don't have my entire viewing history across every device influencing my search results, recommendations, home content, etc. As a result, I never upload videos. I've been meaning to create an account just for social media posting, but then of course, you have to log back out, delete the Google super cookie, separate viewing and posting, etc. It's practically like air gapping your posting and viewing machines if you want to avoid the content manipulation. Mostly, I'm just lazy, so I haven't done it. I try to not use anything Google. I'm currently trying to find an alternative to DuckDuckGo, since that's just Microsoft under the hood.
