attempted thief broke my glovebox

Don't have time today to mess with it but looks like it will be easy to open

Unfortunately looks like the lock itself is broken. Can see the plastic nub where it broke off

I mean... it makes sense - Even if you lock the glove box, they could easily bust the handle off trying to get in. So why lock it?

I 've had Console Vaults in my previously owned Tacoma & Canyon. Loved them both.
I haven't purchased one for the Gladdy since the console can be locked - but again, even that's plastic. I haven't heard of anyone having their locked Gladdy console ripped apart (on here anyway). Anyone?

When my doors are off, I lock everything. It's a mental thing.... but I feel better doing it.
I know they can still break-in, but it'll take more effort & time to do it. And maybe they'll run out of patience (and time) and move on......

doors and roof are off, and parked in a parking garage. someone went thru the center console (which i leave unlocked), took nothing at all, and attempted to open the glovebox (which is usually unlocked but i had it locked this time for no reason at all)

i dont leave anything of value for pretty obvious reasons when topless/doorless, not even sure what they were looking for. but he did break the handle completely off the glovebox trying to open it. so i guess the lock is effective, except now it's extra-locked as i can't open it at all. is there a replacement part for the handle/latch, or do i need the whole glove box assembly?

That is a pretty good price. Cheaper than used salvage ones on Ebay.

Not to ask perhaps a stupid question, but why do you want to lock the glove box, especially after your previous experience? Why keep anything in the glove box of any value? I keep a few pens, a small pad or two, copies of my registration and insurance card if I remember to put them in (a photo from my cell phone works just as well), some gum wrappers, a few napkins, a tire pressure little round gauge, some old maps from who knows where, a few hotel receipts and other stuff that really belongs nowhere.

What of value do you keep in there that you are concerned about losing and need to protect?

Don't let paranoia take hold........ if they opened the console and rifled through, it was just jerks doing what they do. Don't try to figure it out - there's no real logic to some of these crimes. Often they are looking for change or a few bucks to spend on drink or drugs. You'd be amazed at what small amounts they prize.
If they wanted to steal your truck, there's easier ways to do it, and anyone who knew about that piece back of the glove box would have gotten there in seconds, and not touched a single other part of your Jeep. They'd go directly there, and quickly. They'd not spend time looking at anything else.

I see your point, maybe it was more than what was in the glovebox that they were trying to access. I see you are from the Chicago area, so yes, there may have been more than the glovebox that the thieves were looking for. Even though we live in the FL Keys now (about an hour from Miami), we still have our original home that we are renting there now and can totally understand the issue about car theft (ironically here in the Keys, I don't think I have locked anything since we've been here).

If the only thing they did was go directly to the glove box - might be different, but not really.
The fact he said they rifled through the console - no car thief will waste time.
They know what to go after, go directly to it, and waste no time.
The console would have been left alone, IMO.
A car thief would likely also have made it past the glove box.

but point is, they didn't take anything out of the console, not the loose change, not the phone charger, wireless AA dongle, etc. to me it seemed they wanted in the glovebox, maybe simply BECAUSE it was locked, they assumed something better was in there. idk, why not take the change.

there was a bike lock style key in the console, that was on the floor, along with some other smaller things. perhaps they thought the key would open the glovebox? idk. i had a friend have their car stolen right out of the driveway (dodge charger). caught some of it on a dashcam. thief plugged in an iPad, punched a few things and the car started up. i guess im worried it's that easy if u can get behind the glovebox.

thanks... so long story short, if i want to fix it i get a new glovebox and leave it unlocked and go about my business. appreciate the info from everyone as always!

You can swap the cylinder over (if not damged) Or we can get you a blank cylinder that a local locksmith can code for you.
