Hi. I have a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. I love it. After a few years of owning in and putting miles on it on great trips to Colorado, Utah, etc., I decided to buy it after the lease ended. At 62000 miles, I had the dreaded knock in the engine and took it in with the first of two cam issues, after warranty expired. Jeep Wave and my dealership have been awesome through the whole process. I can't say enough about both.
I currently have 100,000 miles on it and it has been going great. However, the last few months, I've been having intermittent electrical issues. Most of them just have all the lights cycle through all of the areas that need to be serviced, still driving normal, eventually coming back to somewhat normal with the check engine light on and traction control light on. After turning off the engine, everything is back to normal for a while. Sometimes it happens every time I drive it, other times, I can drive it over 200 miles, starting and stopping and no problems. As soon as I forget about it, it seems to happen to remind me. And I can't figure out any consistencies on why it happens.
There were two instances where I don't know what to think. First, I was driving on a two lane road, on an "s" curve, about 45 mph, with oncoming traffic and the Christmas tree of lights started happening. This time, the power steering also went out and I couldn't accelerate and barely keep the Jeep out of oncoming traffic. When I was able move it over a little, it hit the rough shoulder and I had to slow down even more with traffic behind me. This was extremely scary. I pulled over when I had a chance, gathered myself, turned off the vehicle and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I started it and everything was good. Two days later, I had promised to take my son album hunting. I was nervous as we were in the Minneapolis area with tons of traffic at varying speeds. We put on over 200 miles the whole day and nothing happened, thankfully.
The other time, I was stopping at a convenience store picking up lunch and ran in with the vehicle running and locked. 5 minutes later, I came out and the windows were down, the wipers were going, the radiator fan was going on high. I was able to get in no problem, but couldn't do anything. I tried to turn it off multiple times but didn't work. I called my school where I teach and Jeep Wave as I'm still on warranty and they called a tow truck. Before the tow truck arrived, I was able to turn off the Jeep, start it and ran fine, other than the check engine light. When I went to leave teaching for the day, it started right up with no warning lights or problems.
It has since been in the shop at the dealership I purchased it. After a month of no luck in replicate the problem, they called me to come get it. I have the summer off so I suggested to drive it around close to the dealership for a while to see if anything would happen and then I could bring it in. I got in it for the first time, started it, put it in drive and all of the lights cycled. I was happening and I pulled right in to the service bay and showed the service rep. It had cycled through all the warning and check this and that lights on the dash, but the traction control light was still on but no check engine light. I had time so he drove it back to the mechanic and he wants to keep it. He thinks he might have an idea. I suggested the cam bus after tons of research on this forum. This was two days ago. Hopefully, they can figure something out so it doesn't happen anymore.
I'm really concerned because the lease if up next month and I don't want to end up buying a vehicle that has had so many issues and now with the electrical. But I still will, as I really love my Jeep! But, if I buy it, I'm concerned about a trip I have planned with my son to Colorado and Utah at the end of July. I really don't want the power steering to go out on a mountain road or trail. Or have issues in the desert. Especially, with my son.
I don't know what to do.
