The distance setting for ACC do not affect AEB. The AEB is just a fixed thing where the vehicle thinks a crash is likely (warning) or imminent (self-braking). I've had three AEB warnings and two self-brake events. One was fully, absolutely legit and probably saved a wreck. An idiot turned left in front of me, and a box truck blocked my view. AEB saw it before I could. Another activation happened when a bicyclist just meandered out of the bike lane into my lane kind of suddenly. He swerved back. But AEB was still doing the right thing because if he'd kept going left, I'd have hit him.
The warnings have been in situations where a car was turning right, and then did that stupid thing of swerving left before going right.
