The advantage of the AUX switches over any aftermarket switches is you have the ability to change their functionality on the fly through the head unit.

for instance I have my dash cam wired to AUX4. I have it set to automatically turn on/off with the keyed ignition. However if I park somewhere sketchy and want to leave the camera on I can change the setting on the fly and it will remain on when the ignition is off.

Great point, thanks.

Glad I found your post.
I just picked up the 70mai Omni dash cam that also has an "always on" sentry feature. Did you connect the two power wires to the aux 4 switch wire?
My last dash cam I just connected to the fuse box.

Not sure what you mean by 2 power wires. My dash cam did not come with a sentry feature. That is why I use the head unit to change the functionality of the Aux4 switch. It sounds like your dash cam as to the ability to be powered via 2 different power sources. So you should connect one source to switched 12v and the other to always on 12v.

you could connect both power wires to aux4 and use the head unit to control the power ti the camera but that would defeat the purpose of having a sentry feature on your camera

Also a follow up on the dash cam wiring using aux4. I have noticed that the head unit doesn't always turn the camera on with ignition . This is not ideal for a dash cam that you expect to be recording every time you start the car. The reliability of the aux switches is frustrating. It is possible that I am accidently bumping into aux4 and switching it off but this happens frequently enough to make me question the head unit

Looking at other install videos the 2 wire connections are made at the fuse box to the cigarette lighter fuse and whatever other fuse is on when the vehicle isn't running.
I have the OEM switches but have nothing assigned to them. I'd like to use them on at least one thing if this is possible.
