So far, I have just been using an old bath towel. It's long enough to span the seat bottoms; just tuck the edge into the seam between the upper and lower set cushions.

My wife bought an elaborate seat cover thing for her Transit Connect, but it is too involved to install (or at least she has never figured it out).

I have one of these and it works great. Installs in 2 minutes and it keeps the dogs from climbing up into the front seat.
I have had Golden Retardeds since 1988. I have had a form of dog hammock since 1988.
Keeps the seats clean, if you get the true hammock style they are suspended a bit above the seat and if you have to do a quick brake they have a bit of air cushion before hitting anything.
Only vehicle I didn't have a dog hammock in was my '86 CJ7, Elwood loved riding in the back seat with top off. He was strapped in and ears and tongue flying in the breeze.

Can't wait to get Grace (my current GR) in the back of the JT with the top off and see her reaction.

I have an older boxer that could not jump in with the bottom of the seat down so I got the seat hammock, installed it on the seat behind the driver and let it drape down instead of hooking to the driver head rest. On the passenger side I flipped the bottom of the seat up and installed one of her large pillow beds on the floor so she has a landing spot. I then use a blanket and drape outside the door opening to prevent scratches if she does not make it all the way in. Still have to give her an extra push from behind during her jump but it works
