Can anyone clarify for me about installing over a spray in bed liner? Do I have to grind any of the bed liner away before installing?

No you should not have too. I had to remove a bit of extra liner at the bolt holes on the cab side, just to get the nuts to slide in.

Got mine installed today, it was super easy! Another question for everyone else who installed theirs…. Did anyone/everyone skip the last step where you put the foam pads on that keep it from hitting up against the rear glass? I haven’t done that yet, but was unsure how necessary that step was, seems like there is no way for the rolled up cover to come in contact with the top.

Also, a little tip for anyone else who is going to be installing their own, for the 4 bolts on the side rails near the tailgate, don’t even waste your time with the included right angle bit that they send you…. A short T30 driver bit fits into the small snap on ratchet that is included in your hard top removal kit, and that is the way to go! My regular 1/4” ratchet was too deep to fit into the rails, but the hard top removal kit ratchet worked perfectly!

I didn’t add the foam at the end, i rarely have it rolled up while driving. When I do, I just don’t roll it super tight and up close to the cab. Never had issues with it hitting the cab that way.

I actually ended up installing the foam bits on mine. I figured that it was an easy enough step for an added piece of mind, just in case. And they aren’t visible at all with the cover rolled up on laid out flat. And if they fall off, so be it.
We did get some rain here this morning and I noticed that I’m still getting some water coming in at the bulkhead. I didn’t expect it to be completely watertight, but after looking at it the seal doesn’t even come close to making contact at the bulkhead…. So I’m going to have to find some thicker weather stripping to put there.

I took the bed cover off and applied the extra gasket material over the top of existing gasket material. The extra gasket in the box needs to be ripped in half lengthwise, which is easily done, and there was plenty. Re-installing the rails was a pain because the gaskets are now so thick. It went back on, but sits at an angle where the gasket is obviously too thick. Maybe it will settle in with time. Will report back after rain.

In hindsight, I should have ripped off the original thin gasket and installed the thicker one. The thin gasket from the factory clearly does not seal the side rails against the rough texture of the factory side rail plastic. Or, Bak could have just installed the thicker one to begin with.

No. The side rails do not use a gasket. He was saying that he added the extra seals to the bulkhead at the front of the bed to try to lessen water entry there.

I think they ship all covers with both a single thick gasket and the two additional 1/4" strips that you separate.
I did my GMC last night, and the 1/4" seals are supposed to be used on that truck if you have a bed liner.

Gotcha. Yep mine came with that also. It looked almost like there was some gasket under is rails in the pic. Thanks for clarification.
