Is there a Tonneau Cover that checks all the boxes?

I'm stuck after researching covers for days. Let me start with the boxes I'm trying to check:
1. Keep cargo underneath protected and dry (sure, they all do that)
2. Security/lockable (this rules out all soft covers)
3. Ability to haul on top of cover and have tie down points. (Diamondback)
4. Ability to get cover completely out of the way (Rugged Ridge Armis Hard Folding Cover folds up vertically at front of bed)

I like the Diamondbacks and I think that's at the top of the list. But there are going to be situations where I need the cover completely out of way. For example, I'm going to go grab a full load of firewood. That's not going to work with a Diamondback, and I would have to completely uninstall the cover before making my run.

I also like the Rugged Ridge because it folds completely out of the way. But then it lacks the ability to tie down something on top. For example, I'm going camping, and I'll throw all the "must stay dry stuff" under, and then a cooler strapped down on top. Or even a sheet of plywood so I don't have to mess around that whole third position tailgate thing.

Anyone have any creative solutions or advice?

Tough combo, especially trying to cover both #3 and #4 in one. Also keep in mind, most covers won't achieve 100% dust/water protection, but come very close. You might have to add some weather stripping and update it as it wears if you truly want 100%. The other one that looks good for hauling stuff on top is the ACE Eng Upper Decker, but again that doesn't meet #4.

I personally went with the BAK X4 Revolver hard roll-up, and I think it meets all except #3 out of box. It can handle some weight on top, but I wouldn't personally want to haul with stuff sitting on it, and there are no tie downs, so you'd have 2 options:
  • Use the t-slot rails on the side to attach some tie-down points and haul stuff on top accepting that you'll likely damage the finish
  • Use the t-slot rails to throw on some Yakima or other racks and strap down to those rails or a basket on top of them.
Otherwise, maybe a folding soft-topper is a better option overall, though personally I avoided it becuse I don't like the look.

After more thinking, I've flip flopped again and wonder if prioritizing #4 is more important, which rules out the diamondback. I'm trying to think how I would realistically use the top of a diamondback with the cleats, and I'm thinking I wouldn't.

But then I start thinking about down the road, how much I would love to have a rack too. And so far I don't see any options where someone can do both a rack and a cover.

Check out the cover by Renegade ( https://renegadecovers.com/?v=bd5bccca5a71 ) NOT CHEAP but a super sick cover that checks all the boxes!

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

The cover you describe costs in the neighborhood of $1,500 to $2,000 minimum. Being able to fold mine back completely, all the way, wasn't a high priority to me because it would interfere with seeing through the rear window, and I'd rather not do that. Also, being able to stand on mine wasn't a consideration either, I can't think of one good reason why I'd need to do that.

This does look great, but wow $$$$

I'm curious, can Renegade fold all the way up to the bed? I don't see an example of that in their pics? The Diamondbacks I've looked at only fold front or back with a solid mid piece?

That just doesn't work for my use. I often need full bed usage, so that's why I use a solid rollup X4, but always interested in new options.....
